saratogga
who are big PBX providers in Australia right now?
tyk
To be honest.... nearly nobody has much marketshare
saratogga
great opportunity
tyk
its basically untouched
AndresVP_
Specifically block incoming calls.
saratogga
why do you think that is the case?
tyk
Government is spending 50 billion dollars the moment to run Fibre to every household / business in Australia
saratogga
Are you offering anything beyond just a a PBX? Business SMS is getting hot here in the US
tyk
so now we will have faster internet then people are going to want Hosted PBX
Business SMS is dead here
Its all email
saratogga
who are some of the leading PBX providers there?
tyk
www.engin.com.au
www.faktortel.com.au
saratogga
Are you offering any browser extensions for web calling, WebRTC related products built on top or anything like that?
tyk
https://www.mynetfone.com.au/Business/phone-systems/virtual-PBX
saratogga
Are you also doing the networking work for the customers? Or it's all up to them to figure it out with QoS and such?
tyk
So we have our own infrastructure in the DC
We use AAPT IP-Line here
neurosys
MrFrenchyPants: Airplane debris found off your little island
tyk
it can be either Fibre, Ethernet, ADSL, NBN Fibre, NBN Fixed Wireless
saratogga
What are you going to offer customers that ask for mobile apps that give them access to visual voicemail and such?
tyk
and gives us Layer 2 connectivity for tails for the client
Clients don't use all of that stuff.... Most important things for us are:
Shared Parking on the handsets
Call Quality
Reliability
Clear Bills (we use a company in Australia called Outworks to do our billing)
Easy to Use phones (we are very careful how we provision them to make it easy for the user)
saratogga
here the phone apps that come with the PBX appear to be big selling points
tyk
and call rates
They are - but 90% of them don't work
even the 3CX apps don't work
saratogga
what about video?
tyk
We have a very good 4G network here (one of the fastest) and that is fine for voice - however when you are in 3G only zones (basements etc) the voice doesn't work too wel
well*
Video hasn't really taken off too much here (yet) and if people are using it they're doing it over Skype
or FaceTime
not that important with VoIP handsets yet in the office because the other parties device is most likely going to be Skype etc
saratogga
here companies always try to sell their product as Unified Communications
so they add collaboration like screen sharing and such
tyk
Yeh its the buzz owrd here too
word*
What phones are you using?
saratogga
Polycoms mostly
tyk
Oh really
saratogga
yeah why what about you
tyk
They have a bad reputation here
Only Cisco
saratogga
haha the opposite here
JR^1
polycom's are our CTO's favorite phones!
tyk
Funny hey!
We have tried Yealink
They're good - but they're not as durable
Cisco SPA are really tough and cheap
What are your call rates like over there?
saratogga
brb :)
call rates are cheap
dirt cheap
tyk
really
Here we go to market with 12 cent local calls
and 25c calls to 13/1300
10 per month per handset
neurosys
Love me some Poly
MrFrenchyPants: Airplane debris found off your little island??
tyk
Does anyone here want some paid work to assist with my setup?
saratogga
back
tyk: what's your setup looking like?
tyk
7 server cluster
We are migrating over a large company in about 2-3 months so we need to iron out any bugs
800 handsets
How about you?
saratogga
tyk: still here? my internet went down for a while
tyk
yes
https://github.com/urueedi/kazoo-provision
saratogga
did you get it to work?
tyk
i'm just playing with it now
from the instructions on that page, where do u think the folder sits? next to the monster-ui folder or inside it
instructions are a bit crrkkkk
saratogga
I wouldn't know, all my experience with 2600hz is from reading the source, didn't actually install it and played with it
tyk
OK...
I wish everything was documented properly
saratogga
or written in Python
tyk
haha
saratogga
technically they have an incentive to have a product that's really only 95% usable as-is
that's why people pay for support :)
tyk
Yes, how much does the support cost?
saratogga
dunno
tyk
Yeh its not on their site
and I've emailed - no response
saratogga
I ordered 10+ different phones yesterday from Amazon
I'm building my own provisioning server
tyk
There is already some good provisioning stuff
I'll send to you
saratogga
cool yeah I would love to have a look
tyk
https://github.com/provisioner/Provisioner
saratogga
yeah I have that bookmarked somewher
I also found a bunch in this repo: https://github.com/SIPfoundry/sipxecs/tree/release-15.04/sipXpolycom/src/org/sipfoundry/sipxconfig/phone/polycom
not usable as-is, but just concept-wise it's a good place to start
