bongfrog
any hints on places to stay for three of us at kazoocon from the San Franciscans?
voxter
hey dudes
anyone else have a badarg crash from running "sup -n ecallmgr whistle_maintenance nodes"
on ecallmgr?
stormqloud_
yes
you are on 3,20?
voxter
yep
jde|office
voxter I get that crash as well, I'm also running the latest 3.20 RPM
voxter
gotcha - i should check that out and see if its patched in master or if it needs to be patched
jde|office
good luck. I still have no idea how to read erlang crash logs much less write any erlang myself :p
I'm too bogged down with day-to-day customer support
looks like the crash is happening right as its trying to get the status of the freeswitch nodes
or rather, as its trying to print the second media server line in the last ecallmgr entry
thats what it looks like for me anyway. Weird.
stormqloud_
voxter: check the mailing list, it's fixed in 3.21 but otherwise thought to be no effect
jde|office
voxter and/or stormqcloud_ do either of you know if device usernames have to be unique globally or do they just have to be unique within an account?
stormqloud_
unique within a realm
jde|office
I was experimenting having a polycom register to two different accounts with the same username (different realms) and got weird behavior
stormqloud_
it should work
jde|office
maybe it had more to do with the kamilio registration not being expired
I didnt exactly wait very long between tests
well I'll take you're word for it
stormqloud_
I've had lines of a polycom register to different extensions within an account
for clietns that want to use differetn caller id etc
jde|office
yeah
stormqloud_
it wouldn;t be true multi-tennant if the names needed to be uniquee
jde|office
I was just experimenting with having the sip device username be the same as the callflow extension its associated with etc etc
and got strange behavior
but I'll chalk it up to being impatient
stormqloud_
well you should run a pbx setup with monster0ui
then you can see the standard way that kazoo is moving to
jde|office
I was gonna install that on my dev VM's
stormqloud_
then when you go back to kazoo-ui you will see the extensions names etc it uses
monster-ui makes more assumptions then kazoo0-ui
jde|office
Actually it is installed alongside kazoo-ui on my dev VMs, I just havent had time to play with it
stormqloud_
I've played with it, but not actually used it for a lcient
still using kazoo-ui for 99%
jde|office
same here. I only have about 100 devices total on the whole system but so far all of my customers have wanted stuff that monster can't quite deliver yet
stormqloud_
monster-ui makes up all kinds of standard callflows for example
curiosity, like what?
jde|office
well I didnt get that deep into it but I didn't see an advanced callflow editor
stormqloud_
no it's not there yet, as far as I understand
jde|office
yeah
stormqloud_
that is a major obstacle I agree
jde|office
that was my main blocker
stormqloud_
that's my main blocker also
jde|office
Im building a partnership with some really good java and javascript devs (one of whom is a UI/UX specialist) and thinking about making an entirely new UI
stormqloud_
that's a tall order, but certainly can be done
jde|office
not saying monster is bad or anything but just not my style. Maybe Im old-fashioned
stormqloud_
the ui looks great to me, I prefer to screw with the back end code
jde|office
my UI/UX guy can do a HTML5/JS callflow editor where all the elements can be anywhere on the screen and have flexible connection points. He says he can anyway. Don't know if that would translate well for kazoos purposes
Im more of a back-end guy too
I guess I can just hold out and see how monster develops, or maybe have these guys contribute to monster
most of my customers dont give a crap about having a UI anyway. They are all the old-fashioned type who are used to old-style PBX's and having to call "the phone guy" whenever they need a change made
stormqloud_
y most clients don;t really use a UI
they call to complain
jde|office
haha yep
stormqloud_
There is more too monster then what we see in the open source also
jde|office
plus I have a sort of sales agreement with a guy who has been doing traditional PBX around here for the last 20 years
stormqloud_
perhaps your needs are met with one fo their other priducts
"trunker"?
jde|office
he has a ton of customers and wants to either convert them totally to hosted PBX or at least sell them trunks to my system
and hes totally fine with not doing any of the work and just taking royalty payments for each customer he brings
stormqloud_
we call these guys trunkers. They are actually wiring guys usually, since that was what phones were
jde|office
yeah
stormqloud_
and they worked out of the back of their car or truck
jde|office
pretty much.
stormqloud_
now they are ready to retire and their clients need a refresh
jde|office
his estimation is that he maintains about 30,000 business phones total in my city. He offered to bring as many of them over as he could for small royalty payments in perpetuity for the lifetime of the account
stormqloud_
that's a lot of phones!
jde|office
guess he is looking to retire, lol
stormqloud_
nothing wrong with buying him out with residuals etc
jde|office
yeah
stormqloud_
he;ll want to get paid on the number you successfulyl move over ;-)
jde|office
he just converted someone who was paying $450/month to the ILEC. They wont use even $50 worth of traffic on my system on a monthly basis but he sold them at $350/month with free support forever
stormqloud_
this is where you run into 80 year old doctors receptionists
jde|office
hahah EXACTLY
thats who he has been mainly bringing over
doctors offices
stormqloud_
that will not change the way they work or use a phone. They will go ot the door "boots first" before you can convince them of call park
nothign wrong with these clients, you just need to handle them carefully
they are "high contact"
jde|office
yeah. Which is why its extra awesome that this PBX dude is offering to still be their main point of contact
so im not just paying him residuals for the account, but for the fact that he'll still answer a lot of their calls
its a di*k'em deal
stormqloud_
I have a trunker that I work with like this arrangement
it's generally a good way to sell I think
jde|office
yeah
speaking of which, have to head to one of the doctors offices right now. They need some work done before the business day starts tomorrow
cya
p.s. if you're open to it I kinda want to pick your brain on your experiences with presence on kazoo, particular in relation to polycoms
later I mean
Ive had some strangeness with it and I think Im doing something wrong or stupid
