Drakevr
as for not landing in .tar.gz i guess you have to write a rule in the target that generates said tgz to exclude them :p
Evil_Bob
Drakevr: or just explicitly list them (better imho)
Drakevr
or that yeah
FRIGN
in the end, scc doesn't have too many files. If you are used to do a git add -A you have other issues :P
Drakevr
who the fu*k does git add -A? xd
FRIGN
yeah, exactly
Evil_Bob
git add -u maybe
FRIGN
Evil_Bob: git add -u does not add untracked files
Evil_Bob
yeah exactly :)
FRIGN
so why is there gitignore?
it's just stupid ^^
Drakevr
many things are stupid with git but that is another story (or book)
kori
gitignore warns you when you try to add a file that's supposed to be ignored
great for avoiding adding that file with all your porn passwords
Evil_Bob
Drakevr: in general i think git is awesome though
FRIGN
kori: pr0n
Drakevr
Evil_Bob: yup. at least compared to alternatives
FRIGN
Evil_Bob: I think it has a feature for everything
:P
but I don't mind really
git is okay, it keeps all the changes in clear text, everything is cool
If you remove the .git-folder, you still have your stuff
and it's pretty strong on the recovery side
you can get out of any fu*ked up situation easily
(talking about reflog for instance)
Evil_Bob
yeah usually :)
k0ga
I agree with Evil_Bob about gitignores
if you want to ignore them building the tar.gz you can do something like:
find . -name .git -prune -o -print | grep -v .gitignore | cpio -o -Hustar | gzip > ff.tar.gz
FRIGN
holy sh*t
okay, another point
http://git.suckless.org/scc/tree/
keeping the tree clean ;)
http://git.suckless.org/scc/tree/?id=235b5368a2c5ad4d58fb02dc9efa0a8d59fb3830
compare both :P
kori
seems scc is coming along nicely
FRIGN
kori: Well, there's lots of work ahead
credit goes to k0ga and Evil_Bob though
esp. k0ga
Evil_Bob
yeah k0ga is the man :)
kori
aye
stateless
bacj
been playing nba jam all day with lostd
kori
stateless: I make that mistake so often
FRIGN
stateless: btw, why doesn't lostd show up here on 2f30 anymore?
stateless
I keep him way too busy
(that's what she said)
k0ga
if you remove the .gitignore in the root directory then you will see all the .o in the subdirectories
if the /.gitignore is removed then *.o must be added to all the others
FRIGN
yeah, I realized that
k0ga
FRIGN: Evil_Bob: what do you think is we add *.o in /.gitignore?
or do you think is better to add it to cc1/.gitignore, cc2/.gitignore, lib/.gitignore?
FRIGN
in the subfolders ;I
;)
k0ga
ok
FRIGN
the root-dir is static anyway
else people might think object-files are dumped there
kori
it's not like it matters
it becomes instantly clear when it finishes compiling
k0ga
ok, I'm going to add it to the subfolders
FRIGN
cool, thx! :)
Evil_Bob
no the root folder, only 1 .gitignore file
FRIGN
Evil_Bob: There's a .gitignore in each subfolder anyway
Evil_Bob
why?
its not needed
FRIGN
for cc1, cc2
are we really going to waste so much time on that?
Evil_Bob
i dunno, why add a .gitignore file to each dir?
FRIGN
Evil_Bob: They're already there!
Evil_Bob
only one in root should be fine (the subdirs will respect it)
FRIGN
and it keeps the rot clean
Evil_Bob
yea so remove them :P
FRIGN
*root
yeah, just remove all of them dude
they're as useless as a brick
Evil_Bob
i would either add one in root or just remove them altogether yea
FRIGN
yeah, just remove all of them
Evil_Bob: While working on sbase, did you miss the .gitignores once?
stateless
fu*k .gitignore
k0ga
why?
they help me a lot
stateless
I hate extra files :P
k0ga
when you do a git status you don't want to see all the generated files
FRIGN
k0ga: why not?
It's just OCD
I agree with stateless
I agree with myself
:P
stateless
k0ga, you are the maintainer, it is up to you
I can do with or without .gitignore
but I prefer to not use it
k0ga
It is true that other suckless projets have no .gitignore
and put things related to the VCS in the tree is always a bit ugly
(mainly what happens when you change the VCS)
files can be also ignored in .git/info/exclude,
so if we decided remove the .gitignores I Can add them there
FRIGN
okay, then do it like this :)
better than having an ugly file somewhere
Drakevr
its also bad to hugely deviate from community standards
i'll be expecting an arch hipster to commit .gitignore to scc
