what's the point of suckless image format?
retard
i don't know
dusty`
whats cooking retard
retard
i don't know that either
this test is going terribly
FRIGN
dusty`: you mean "imagefile"?
dusty`
yeah
retard, you're taking a test? focus forget IRC for the moment
retard
now you're confusing me even more
is this a trick question
can i call a friend
tm512
this is impressive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-NxM1EaXM
retard
it's very nice, but i don't think it's that impressive
dusty`
FRIGN, xscreenshot is hard to use because of it
I would merge it with if2png
Evil_Bob
dusty`: you miss the point of imagefile then
dusty`
Evil_Bob, what's the point of suckless image format?
FRIGN
dusty`: YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT
dude
Evil_Bob
one of the goals its a simple format, so you can write small programs to do things with the bitmap data
dusty`
lol
Evil_Bob
so xscreenshot | dowhatever
FRIGN
I'll be giving a talk on imagefile and a new unreleased format I've been working on at slcon2
dusty`
wish i was there
FRIGN
dusty`: there are going to be recordings
retard
8088mph is impressive
dusty`
oh, great!
I'm actualy really excited to catch these talks
FRIGN
in general, Evil_Bob said it very well
dusty`
is there any for slcon1 ?
FRIGN
yes
http://suckless.org/conference/2013
dusty`: I started converting the videos from YouTube to embedded webm
Evil_Bob
for freedomz
dusty`
great, thanks a lot :)
retard
so imagefile is the supreme euphoric gentlemans bmp
Evil_Bob
retard: we need them alpha channels man
also FRIGN is working on some top secret cool stuff for imagefile
retard
does it support 48bit color?
tm512
retard: it's impressive since it's running on a SNES
retard
tm512 but it's not
Evil_Bob
retard: 69.5bit
retard
that's my point
tm512
and doing realtime polys in software
retard
there are far more impressive snes demos, and demos that do far more impressive stuff with worse hw
FRIGN
I revisited imagefile in my new format and actually investigated if it made sense to support more than 24 bit color
and it doesn't
the entire RGB-model is bad
Evil_Bob
we should switch to the KGB-model huehue
dusty`
hehe
FRIGN
Evil_Bob: Stay tuned for my talk ;)
kori
FRIGN: ever heard of HUSL?
http://www.husl-colors.org/
FRIGN
kori: no, but I worked with CIELAB in my project
I don't think though that this HUSL-project managed to write a converter in 50 LOC :P
kori
https://github.com/husl-colors/husl/blob/master/ports/c/husl.c
nope
FRIGN
okay, g2g
got an exam tomorrow ;)
cya guys
dusty`
bye
Evil_Bob
cya good luck FRIGN
FRIGN
thx Hiltjo :)
dusty`
i'd like to contribute to 2f30
wonder what I can do, looking at the git
better question: what programs are pulled into morpheus that realy suck
imo top is the worst
kori
dusty`: I asked the exact same question a couple days ago
their answer was: "submit patches for sbase"
Evil_Bob
or ubase :)
the design of morpheus is not set in stone, but the sbase, ubase etc tools will be part of it, so it will be most useful to contribute to those projects
(sbase and ubase are ofcourse already part of other distros too, not just morpheus)
kori
Evil_Bob: which ones
Evil_Bob
ok small ones i guess for now
tm512
when my kernel is able to run user mode programs, I plan on using sbase as the "legacy userland" in it probably
dusty`
good luck
did you do paging yet?
tm512
I have a very basic page table setup in the bootstrap, since it's required for x86_64 before switching from 32bit
dusty`
cool :)
tm512
other than that just doing some basic library functions for "libkern"
dusty`
did you see tame from openbsd?
syscall to sandbox programs
https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-tech&m=143725996614627&w=2
very simple
tm512
I saw a mention of it or something, but I don't really follow OpenBSD anymore
dusty`
can steal this idea for linux
Evil_Bob
yeah saw it, looks interesting
doas(1) looks interesting too (kinda like sudo)
