kori
correcting that error
that's the only way to go about it
that is healthy
Evil_Bob
kori: yes, i agree mostly, but i've also learnt alot of time and energy can be wasted on it. some people just wont change from the role of user to developer
kori
saying "X software sucks" and not building a better alternative / help fixing the software IS whining
and that's the whining I don't like
tm512
kori: again, bullsh*t. "suck" in this case is just differences in philosophy. it's not really worth thinking about
kori
suckless as a project doesn't do that mostly
tm512
software is just a tool
if it does what you want, how you want it, just use it
kori
tm512: I love to argue philosophy
pleasure to meet you
Evil_Bob: yeah
that is true
but being in the right 100% of the time is better
things like
"oh please add x to x"
you could just say
tm512
you are like the software equivalent of ansty internet atheists
heh
Evil_Bob
tm512: now you're just bashing
kori
"That's not part of the projects goals."
and you'd be in the right
there's nothing the person could say after that that would make them right
just an example
Evil_Bob
kori: "why is it not part of the goals"
kori
tm512: the thing is, I'm a strong believer in a better future
Evil_Bob
"read the page"
kori
Evil_Bob: touché
Evil_Bob
"oh you're so rude"
kori
even then
tm512
Evil_Bob: well I was letting this ideology affect me. I felt like it was just making me stress out over nothing worthwhile
kori
as to why, it doesn't matter
it's simply not
lol
Evil_Bob
tm512: you're probably too sensitive and serious about it :P
kori
human interaction is HARD, MAN
tm512
and judging by attitudes around here it seems like a large part of it is complaining about stuff you don't like
kori
tm512: not liking stuff is half of the journey
the other half is fixing the stuff
some people take a detour to the complaining station
tm512
like can't mention stallman or GNU in here without having it attacked even if it's not relevant to the discussion
kori
and that's fine
if the complaints are well-founded, keep them in mind
if not, ignore them
that's pretty much it
no one owes sh*t to anybody else
Evil_Bob
tm512: some people have strong opinions regarding it, which is fine imho
tm512
the philosophy revolves around hating stuff which I believe is an unhealthy attitude to harbor
Evil_Bob
some GNU people are really fanatical too
tm512
and you're in an echo chamber which just reinforces extremist black and white views
Evil_Bob
NEWS FLASH: a community has _somewhat_ similar minded people
kori
('~'; )
I like these types of discussions
but when you go down the bashing path it's not nice
tm512
Evil_Bob: yes and that's something to be aware of
the people you're around *do* influence the way you think and behave
Evil_Bob
yeah
i think there is enough diversity even on #2f30
i generally dont like #suckless too much
(just my opinion)
tm512
I think I was in #suckless once with a dwm issue and man they are just cunts over there
like immediate hostility and attacks for having a question
kori
tm512: was it insults or are you being sensitive?
tm512
it wasn't super-obvious either. it was an issue with fullscreen SDL, which for a while just didn't work whatsoever
they were attacking me rather than actually providing any help
Evil_Bob
tm512: hmm it used to be in the BUGS file i think
but yes thats bad
tm512
perhaps, regardless, just basically called a "retarded arch user" and having my question dismissed and just told to not use dwm since I was too stupid to
it was something like that
this was several years ago, like 2011
Evil_Bob
ok well i dont know the context so
but yes it sounds bad
like really really bad mmkay
tm512
and there is a difference between being "not PC" and being a cunt
Evil_Bob
PC?
POSIX Compliant?
kori
politically correct
Evil_Bob
oh
tm512
politically correct, like being overly careful about not hurting anyone's feelings
kori
^
tm512
being a cunt is going out of your way to hurt people's feelings
henriqueleng
I learned to receive aggressions and just not get upset
tm512
the fix might not be to get jaded
it might just be to avoid this sort of community, or at least be distinguished from it by not getting into the mindset of just hating things
Evil_Bob
tm512: there are cunts everywhere, in general i think the people on suckless are friendly, but thats just me
kori
you gotta look at both sides of the coin
tm512
I want to make and use cool software. being around here has limited what I think is cool and it gets me looking for flaws
"it's written in C++, ew, it's GPL, ewww"
kori
there's always the "muh feelans" people who purposely pick anything to get upset about
and then there's the real fu*king cunts
Evil_Bob
tm512: not to be insulting, but if it bothers you alot, maybe you should leave. you cant change all the people man :)
tm512
I'm just becoming aware of how my philosophy has been affected
and I don't want it to have a negative impact on me or people I'm around
kori
tm512: do you do things new jersey style or with the MIT approach?
tm512
what
kori
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worse_is_better
Evil_Bob
tm512: most people on suckless hate C++ yes, probably just join #C++ for those discussions :)
FRIGN
stateless: Evil_Bob: I converted sort(1) in sbase to use the queue.h-macros ;)
to be more exact, to use the TAILQ_*-macros
