do any of you brosephs have any *nix certification?
stateless
what unix certification?
certifications are a waste of time for programmers
maybe if you were into IT
k0ga
indeed
nikolaosk
at my workplace, only sysadmins do
atmc
k0ga: what hardware do you use for your workstation btw
k0ga
in my home?
atmc
yea
your netbsd box
k0ga
it is an 7 years old HP machine
I don't remember the model now
(i'm in the work)
atmc
ah ok. so a pre built box
or laptop?
k0ga
yes
pre built box
atmc
ok, any reason for not building it yourself?
k0ga
because HP gave me a XP license with the computer :P
hahahahhaha
it is because they build good reliable machines
atmc
ok, good to know :)
k0ga
at least, it is my experience
atmc
yea i have an old core2 hp box at work
which still runs as my workstation
because i don't need much speed
k0ga
same here
st and scc build in less of 1 second
so, why I need something else?
atmc
my home box is a self build i5
built
i like how every desktop hp has some raid controller on board
stateless
atmc, I always disable it
:P
my hp microserver is really awesome
i have the g1610t
very cheap too
atmc
wow
200
stateless
have not tried openbsd on it
dsockwell
hp's workstations are hardcore
atmc
hm
stateless
i use dragonfly on that because of the large filesystems
but openbsd should work if you disable raid in the bios
atmc
any hp vs dell experiences here?
stateless
i do not particularly like dell machines
at work i have a monster thinkstation
which works pretty well
atmc
i have a delll monitor
which is tits
like juicy tits
stateless
me too, at home but it is old
monitors were ok
atmc
U24HM
stateless
yeah i have a 24 inch too, don't remember the model
atmc
u2412hm
stateless
it is 6-7 years old
even has sdcard slots
lol
atmc
haha cool
i have usb sluts
stateless
got to go for a meeting
catch you later
:P
back
has it ever happened to you to find a really weird and suspicious firewall rule in one of your servers only to realize an hour later that it was you who introduced it?
:P
Drakevr
yeah but without the hour :p
since i tend to document such stuff to look up in case of fu*kups :p
stateless
what I did was to check the last modification time of the file
then checked the logs to see if there was a sudo command from myself at that time
then spent an hour to remember why I did it
Evil_Bob_
lool
Drakevr
stateless: did you also check w/utmp/pts to see that you are the only you logged in the system ?
stateless
no because other people are permanently logged in
:(
maybe they hax0red me and made me believe I changed the rules using nlp
dsockwell
if they did that, hell
they deserve root
stateless
yes
I always keep a file named READTHIS in /root
and inside the file I have something like
Please add your name to the following list if you got root access
- sin
:P
dsockwell
hahahahaha
the greek honeypot
atmc
lol
dsockwell
the best you can do until there's enough money to pay alienvault
or whoever
stateless
haha
Evil_Bob_
stateless: how can you be sure you wrote it? you should signify it
dsockwell
the point is anyone can write it
if they have root
