k0ga
at this moment he is working in a different repo, which is not public
stateless
ok
quasinoxen
oh hey openfbtd
haven't seen you in a while
openfbtd
hi. I have no idea who you are.
quasinoxen
I'm the uselessd goy, you schmuck.
openfbtd
Oh, it's you.
k0ga
stateless: this was one the biggest problem I had in the interview ;)
openfbtd
quasinoxen, did Tarnyko abandon the damn thing too?
quasinoxen
Yep.
But it's fine.
The successor is brewing.
openfbtd
Eh. It's a bit of a shame, but I'm sure other solutions will have their share of the market
quasinoxen
Which I hope will find a following.
If I get my marketing strategy fine.
openfbtd
Poke me when you're ready to release. I'm a packager, I'll package it :D
I'm basically everywhere, so I'm easy to find
stateless
your nick sounds like an openbsd project
:P
quasinoxen
openfbtd: you might find it a little hellish
openfbtd
It's mostly a joke on all the nix style nicks
I'm usually just fbt, but someone stole that on this network
quasinoxen
I'm actually considering compiling a Slackware variant mirroring -current with the system fully preconfigured for people to easily try it out on QEMU.
Rather than building on their own.
openfbtd
Hmm. Interesting
quasinoxen
it's very heterodox
lots of ideas from research systems
openfbtd
New ideas are great
Believe it or not, I was one of the people who were hyped for systemd at some point
And the only fundamental problem I personally have with it is the fact that they are pushing it as The Solution.
And I was almost the Arch's maintaner for systemd, but then falconindy snatched that.
And now I'm very glad I dodged that :D
quasinoxen
Mine isn't. In fact, it's quite special-purpose and oriented for fault tolerant setups, intended to be used in a very proactive cowboy sysadmin manner. Of course, it can run for any use case, but will shine really well at those.
openfbtd
That is even more curious
quasinoxen
I intend to get a following around some of the more research-oriented communities like NixOS.
Then I'll have a really good image to leverage against systemd.
openfbtd
I find it silly to actually go head to head with systemd. It provides too much, even thoug it gets all the problems wrong
quasinoxen
openfbtd: It isn't going head to head.
openfbtd
But creating/filling a niche is good
quasinoxen
In fact, it many ways it's an opposite approach.
openfbtd
Extremely good
quasinoxen
Only a few abstractions are ruthlessly exploited to recreate most of systemd's functionality without the system having to intrinsically support complicated logic, and without encroaching on other subsystems.
Code is much smaller, too.
openfbtd
I'm rapidly finding that my approach to system engineeering is not something I alone follow and find to be good. And it's interesting, because people who use my meta-distro are few, but [passionate
It's... interesting
It's a niche, but it has a following
quasinoxen
Really, though.
A visible rival to systemd is in order.
openfbtd
I'm pretty sure your approach will also find some kind of a niche
quasinoxen
Supposed to accommodate the hacker/researcher paradigm.
openfbtd
You have an interesting approach
So... why not.
quasinoxen
Give you rope to hang yourself with.
openfbtd
Again, poke me, I'll try to package it :)
If it's too much, I'll just say so.
quasinoxen
You'll come on IRC when you the time comes. No way you won't hear about it.
openfbtd
No shame in backing off
Evil_Bob_
stateless: we should port doas to morpheus/stali if possible
