hahaha
z3bra
fu*kfu*kfu*kfu*k
stateless, can you believe that I still can't boot my online.net box?
stateless
hm why?
:P
z3bra
can't install alpine correctly
stateless
well that's on you
:P
use ubuntu
z3bra
and as SC box don't have KVM/IP, I can't see what's going on
stateless
I told you no serial monitor is a bi**h
z3bra
yup
stateless
do it in a vm
z3bra
know I understand why :P
stateless
and replicate the exact steps
z3bra
good idea
stateless
then boot and pray
:P
z3bra
why did I not think about it, honestly..
openfbtd
I had to ask hetzner for an IP-KVM last time I was setting up Spark on my server
Turned out I forgot to set the kernel cmdline correctly :<
stateless
z3bra, keep in mind things that may be different in a VM versus the actual box (nothing much but make sure you set up networking correctly for example)
online.net does hand dhcp but I have it statically configured for my servers
z3bra
I copied the interfaces file from the rescue image
stateless
ok :)
z3bra
so it should be correct
I really can't see where I messed up
stateless
you can also put sth in the init scripts, as early as possible
like a ping -c 3 somebox.org
and do a tcpdump on somebox.org
you can use different packet sizes
to see how far it went
z3bra
I even used disk labels in case disk names changed on boot
stateless
you only have one disk so /dev/sda should be right
FRIGN
hey guys
what's up?
z3bra
I don't think it even boots the kernel
stateless
very likely, maybe bootloader/kernel screw up
z3bra
it might be extlinux which mess up
but I can't be sure, or debug :P
I'll ask for a hard KVM this weekend though
They can install it on servers for 12 hours
that might help a lot
stateless
should be enough
z3bra
but I need to be avail when they do
(which is the hardest part..)
FRIGN
z3bra: that's what she said
z3bra
when they do *ME*
stateless
z3bra, once I set up a server at home and forgot that cannot connect over ssh as root
I had removed the monitor at that point and boxed it
so I logged in blindly
with just a keyboard
and added a user
:P
z3bra
haha I know that feel
pressing ^C all the time
just to be sure
stateless
^C followed by ^D
to be sure you are back at the login prompt
lol
z3bra
haha yeah
stateless
also installed openbsd in the same manner by doing an install in qemu at the same time
and replicating the steps
z3bra
I should learn how to qemu properly
I still need to follow step-by-step guides now
stateless
:P
z3bra
also, I need to tell uggedal that his "install void linux on online.net" script doesn't work :P
stateless
z3bra, it was for linode
:P
z3bra
no
woid linux
void*
http://uggedal.com/journal/void-linux-on-online-dedibox-xc/
stateless
ah hadn't seen that
z3bra
I tried that, when I was desesperate :P
"I need something to boot, no matter what!!!"
stateless
did it work?
z3bra
no.
stateless
lol
z3bra
haha
stateless
I suppose sh*t like this is quite fragile
especially when distro ppl like to change sh*t in their systems all the time
