flyback: yeah
3d transistor stuff is going to offer some improvement to semiconductor manufacturing
Amperture
I love it when someone thinks putting a Codeshare page on /g/ is a good idea.
cambazz
hey guys
any ideas how i can convert a batch of 0.5V solar cells to 5V?
i have done it so by connecting them in series, then using a step down regulator
desaster
i guess usually boost converters are used for such applications
cambazz
but I want to do it as a stepup from 0.5V to 5V and connect them in parrallel
desaster: yes i know, i searched suppliers like polulu/sparkfun for a chrge pump with 0.5V in but unfortunately could not find one, so decided to build my own
desaster
i've tested tps61201 a bit, it has a range of 0.3 -> 5.5V

Howdy Spirilis
Spirilis
how's it going? this channel is mostly dead these days, but a few of us still lurk
membiblio
Would anyone know, off the cuff so I don't have to do a lot of research as well as save time, how to complement TI best for their new MSPGCC RedHat effort as well as CCSv6 under Linux?
Spirilis - maybe the newbies don't know to come here?
Spirilis - or maybe it's better that they don't?
Spirilis
how to compliment them? a thread in the MSP430 E2E forum is probably the best way :)
https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166
membiblio
Oh good idea. Thank you.
Spirilis
that will have actual TI'ers seeing it
membiblio
And thank you for the link too! :)
Spirilis
np
membiblio
I changed over to Linux Mint after reading about W10 and I, with direction from Rickta59 from here, dl'd ccdv6 and it just Plugged and Played - very cool and great.
Spirilis
yeah I guess these IRC channels usually get frequented by experts or aspiring hobbyists, but it's mostly died off. I'm not sure whether that's a referendum against TI's product, or just evidence of the emergence of a wide variety of sexy ARM chips, or a general cooling of the electronics hobbyist community in general
ah that is very nice :)
rare and enjoyable to see it all magically "just work"
membiblio
Kinda frustrating though that it was hard for me to find searching Giggle... :)
Just Work is great. Mankind has such potential and fighting tools is not productive
Spirilis
hmm, actually it looks like 43oh.com's "IRC" link is broken
so maybe that's partly why :)
there is also a #msp432 channel though that has been very quiet lately
membiblio
Wait - what does that mean Spirilis - you mean Rickta59 connects through 43oh.com web client?
Oh 43oh.com is down?
Spirilis
no 43oh.com is up, but the site's "IRC" page doesn't work
Rickta59 uses his own IRC client I assume
membiblio
oh
Spirilis
as do I
membiblio
Um why don't you use a IRC client? Not that it is any of my beezwax
Spirilis
I do use an IRC client
Irssi under Linux (accessed remotely in a screen session over SSH)
membiblio
Ok so help me understand about 43oh irc page, I don't even see IRC in nav of 43oh
Spirilis
go to forum.43oh.com, the forum, see "43oh | The 43oh Blog | The 43oh Store | Raffles | Wiki | IRC | Members | Calendar | AWards | Contact Us"
that IRC link... takes you to a page with some html iframe that doesn't actually expand
membiblio
Got it.
Maybe freenodes http client is screwed up
Spirilis
I kinda think he changed his website software and forgot to modify that [iframe] tag thingie
maybe I'll msg him about it
membiblio
Nice. That would help them yes.
Spirilis
k sent him a pm
membiblio
I have a dating website, off topic, but I NEVER get messages from members. They don't take the time to report issues and in the 1/1000'th time someone does - it is helpful and just escaped me because I *thought* I see something different. It really helps to complain... :)
So what are you working on Spirilis?
btw - who is 'him' in reference to 43oh?
Spirilis
oh, 'him' being bluehash, the owner/admin of 43oh.com
heh, I have not been working on much, nothing electronics related for months ... my personal workspace is overrun with junk and I have not had the time to properly clean & process the mess, so it just sits idle
recently been reading a lot of books, and one thing I'm teasing getting into is Android application development
membiblio
Come on Man! Get your xxxx together - remember Mankind... blah blah
Nice. I use Android Studio under Linux. Works great.
Spirilis
yeah, my plan is to tackle all that crap next month when my mother in law is in town to help my wife with the kids
I did just install android studio yesterday, looks pretty nice
membiblio
Would you like some code for example that includes geolocation and interaction with a web server?
Spirilis
sure :)
membiblio
If you have any questions please ask me directly and I will try to help. There are also podcasts about android development on Pocketcasts which I run on my nexus 5 android phone.
Will you actually play with it and do something great and constructive?
Spirilis
I am reading "Professional Android 4 Application Development" by Reto Meier, it's extensive but very good information, however it's a huge book too ... I intend to generally read through most of it to gain a passive familiarity before diving into it in earnest
probably not for a while.
membiblio
Oh also there are some examples of IOT'ish thingys around. One I see on 43oh - the weather thing.
Spirilis
i.e. a month or so
membiblio
Nice. That sounds great and the right course of action.
Spirilis
I'm tackling it as a "long-term" project so to speak
membiblio
When you get to the point of playing message me for the code and remind that I said I would AOK?
Spirilis
Ok :)
I'll admit the architecture of android is seductive to me, seems very well thought out, but oh my goodness there's a lot going on
membiblio
So you are in MD Spirilis?
Spirilis
Yep that's me
membiblio
Yes I agree with you regarding Android.
Did you see the new Android Messaging Vuln called StageFright?
Spirilis
I saw some headlines but haven't read about it yet
membiblio
Basically turn off "Automatically Retrieve MMS Messages" - well crafted MMS can compromise Android and make phones 'their BytcX'
Spirilis
lol, just googled it briefly. Oh great!
ok, unchecked "Auto Retrieve" :)
membiblio
We all just have to deal with this stuff - android and linux - will be targeted the more of them out there.
Spirilis
yep
membiblio
Do this for all your friends and family especially business friends. Tell them JUST DELETE UNKNOWN MMS - it is not a mis sent boobie pic - it is malicious malware.
Spirilis
Some of the books I have been reading lately are more ..... how should I put it .... metaphysical meaning-of-life type of crap, but one of the most recent is "At Home in the Universe" by Stuart Kauffman. The reason I bring this up is the amazing analogue between the complexity of our computer systems and the complexity of life's chemistry in general, and how many of the motifs transfer... like pathogens and viruses
membiblio
Ok Spirilis - I'm going to get back to work. Thank you for the chat and esp thank you for the TI recommendation. I will compose and post :)
Spirilis
np, ttyl :)
membiblio
Oh I will see if I can find that one. How old are you?
Spirilis
33
membiblio
I'm 51 - funny the dating website is a metaphysical one :)
Spirilis
haha, that's interesting
membiblio
my members love that stuff
Spirilis
sounds like a unique angle on the whole idea
membiblio
search for metaphysical dating on giggle and you will find - it is the one that is vertical market and stand alone
Spirilis
yeah
anyway highly recommend Stuart Kauffman and anything coming out of the Santa Fe institute - these guys are doing some groundbreaking science and theorizing
membiblio
Ok later Gator! Keep up keepin up :) That is me too!
Spirilis
awesome, later!
membiblio
I giggled and bookmarked both of those Stuart and Santa Fe
