Rickta59
ooh .. shrinking
46
so why do all you lurkers still hang out?
vigs
because I enjoyed using the msp430 and people talk about MCUs and stuff in here
Rickta59
you are one of the vocal people
there are people I've seen in here for years .. yes .. years
and I've never seen a single character from them
vigs
Bots, people with a bouncer who forgot IRC exists, people who join a billion channels, more bots, who knows
Rickta59
yeah .. i guess i'm in a lot of channels
but I usually make some comment at least once in a while
what projects are you doing with the msp430 vigs?
vigs
Right now, nothing specifically with the msp. My current microcontroller project is using the mbed
Rickta59
which mcu?
vigs
Though I'd like to go back and rewrite some of my msp utilities in C++
https://mbed.org/
Rickta59
sure i know mbed
stm boards?
vigs
The mbed LPC1768
Rickta59
nxp?
k
vigs
NXP, yeah
Rickta59
are those still stupid expensive?
at one point i think they were like $70
vigs
Last I checked, $60. But I bought mine just after they released the cheaper version
Spirilis
woot saw the ISS flyover
Rickta59
while grilling?
or it was on purpose watching it?
Spirilis
on purpose
Rickta59
fun .. do you have something to see it?
Spirilis
found a reference to it in twitter not 2 minutes before it happened
vigs
Oh, I do have an STM32F401 Nucleo I've been meaning to set up. I wanna put some RTOS on it and just mess around with it.
Rickta59
mbed works on those too now no?
Spirilis
no it's easy to spot with the naked eye, looks like a bright star that's not flickering and moves at a slow steady pace across the sky
vigs
Rickta59: Yeah, that STM board says "mbed compatible" on the packaging
Spirilis: did you not use a telescope?
Rickta59
i remember watching satellites at sunset in Iraq
Spirilis
it would be cool to look at it through a telescope though :D
vigs
ah
Rickta59
just a flash of green on the horizon
Spirilis
nice
vigs
I've seen the ISS fly by at a few astronomy club meetings. It's really cool!
Rickta59
does ISS have green red lights? : )
Spirilis
lol nope
vigs
You could bring a pair of binoculars if you don't have a telescope, they work really well! (And it's a bit easier to track it, too)
Rickta59
so what are you doing with mbed vigs ?
vigs
Rickta59: Just a side project I'm leisurely making progress on. It's just a way to automate playing a 3DS, since I never find time to. E.g., when you're playing pokémon and you wanna breed for some quality, there're some things you can do to better your chances of getting it. But at some point, it's entirely up to the RNG, and you have to just grind until you get what you want.
Rickta59
:)
robots to play games for us now
vigs
Not like I ever find time to play ;P
Spirilis
ah I don't have any binoculars either :D ... or actually I think I do just no idea where they're being stored
maybe in my camping pack
vigs
Binoculars are surprisingly useful to have when you're stargazing!
I almost bought a really nice pair, but decided against it, since I can just borrow my friend's when I need it.
flyback
<flyback> you guys rememeber the hxc hw floppy emulator
<flyback> the author ported his emulation fw to the cheap gotek stm32 based $27 china floppy emulator board
Spirilis
fjear
Rickta59
fjear?
Spirilis
some dude came in with name "helaughsatfear"
Rickta59
ah : )
helaughsatfear
yah
Rickta59
what is all that about helaughsatfear ?
hmm
helaughsatfear
got disconnected
Rickta59
i thought i frightened you : )
helaughsatfear
it was a mix of emotions :P
Rickta59
so i saw this thing today ..
6502 emulator running on the stm32
helaughsatfear
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Job+39%3A22-24&version=ICB
Rickta59
https://github.com/pingumacpenguin/STM32duino-6502-Emulator
helaughsatfear
helaughsatfear is a quote from the book of Job in the bible
Rickta59
ah
you can tell we all missed that :)
helaughsatfear
but it reminds me to laugh at fear
and not be controlled by it
Rickta59
so i saw that 6502 thing and thought .. that is the perfect thing for those high capacity fram boards
so how fun is this:
http://oi62.tinypic.com/2ilo3tt.jpg
Spirilis
haww
that's nice
Rickta59
one small change in cpu.c
Spirilis
I wouldn't mind rocking a TRS-80 Color Computer on an mcu
that was my old mainstay
Rickta59
const uint8_t RAM[RAM_SIZE];
to
const uint8_t FRAM[RAM_SIZE] = {0};
uint8_t *RAM = (uint8_t *)FRAM;
Spirilis
very nice
then have a 'save & halt' feature so you can restore after power cycle just like those game console emulators
Rickta59
MrMobius: did you see that?
MrMobius
Rickta59, just saw
there was someone getting about 2mhz on an avr
ehBasic, cool
Rickta59
does that run on your setup MrMobius ?
ehBasic?
heh .. on a 1294 launchpad even zippier
* 120 MHz
heh .. what waste
turning a 120MHz board into a 1MHz 6502
Spirilis
lol
