ok, one thing that's utterly retarded about the stock TI ldscripts for msp430-elf-gcc... no default ".infomem" or .infoa, .infob, .infoc, .infod segments from what I can tell
they do at least define the INFOMEM memory segment but you have to import and doctor your ldscript if you want to create an __attribute__'able segment out of it
Rickta59
this is pretty sad ..
https://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/compiler/f/343/p/417242/1613532#1613532
so now that someone is getting paid for maintaining the RH msp430 gcc compiler .. he has less access to the people who provide the info than Peter B who did it for free before
or is it he just doesn't really care and doesn't put out any extra effort to make sure things are right
Spirilis
probably a little of both
now that someone is being "paid", others in TI probably don't give a sh*t
"oh that's someone else's job, nevermind the fact that I'm a huge part of how timely and successful it is"
Rickta59
the fact that the 69xx stuff isn't in there .. seems like it is willful
Spirilis
along with him probably thinking "hmm, not my place to rock another company's boat"
nick clifton is RedHat right?
Rickta59
i think so
Spirilis
yeah nickc@redhat.com
Rickta59
too him forever to even look at it
months ..
i guess they must not be paying much for maintenance
the problem is because he is the responsible party
no one else has any incentive to do anything
and can't really
Spirilis
right
Rickta59
other than making patches and suggesting it might be good
i mean i can fix the problem myself
because the source is out there
Spirilis
the problem has been encapsulated with money and marginalized to avoid TI having to expend the right resources on it
Rickta59
but when i compared the stuff in the gcc source vs the stuff in what ti ships
they are way out of date
so there are some critical 20bit fixes in there
but not in the ti source
and it seems like there is a huge disconnect between flow of info from RH->TI and TI->RH
so i can apply those fixes to my source ..
but that means anyone else using it is going to have to do the same
maybe it will get better if Robert starts using and complaining ..
although I'd have to guess he is more into being a father now than an Energia evangilist
a couple of weeks ago i checked out the energia source
it was missing stuff so i couldn't even compile it
then I checked it out this morning
still the same problem
Spirilis
right
Rickta59
hmm .. interesting i was just browsing the commit log and it looks like he added a submodule for the missing stuff
you need to do:
git submodule init
git submodule update
to get the emt stuff
energia multi-threads?
Spirilis
yeah
emt = ti-rtos stuff for energia
I haven't checked in, oh, a year or so I guess but I don't recall the full ti-rtos project actually being there
beyond just binaries that he built outside of the project
that's what really turned me off, can't figure out wtf is in there or trace down bugs
but then this was before official release, so he might have been doing that for legal reasons
Rickta59
yeah that builds and runs
that emt tree seems to have the source and a readme
https://github.com/energia/emt
Spirilis
heh from wiznet store, W7500 is $3.39 per chip in single qty... that is ARM Cortex-M0 core with Ethernet MAC, although PHY not built in. 128K flash/16K SRAM 64TQFP
just goes to show how cheap it can be to have "managed" ethernet you can integrate into your own projects
ike
or you can buy wifi module
and save on cabbles
Rickta59
ike what are you going to do about the new FCC rule changes
your favorite routers are going to get locked down
ike
hahahahaha
Rickta59
oh wait .. FCC .. nm ; )
ike
btw what are those new rules
can you give me link or something
Rickta59
locked firmware on routers
it was on had today
i think it for 5GHz ones
not sure if it affects 2.4
i half read it
and just added it to the list of bad sh*t going on in the US government I have no way to affect
ike
soooo you can't remove your NSA module in YOUR router? Cool
Rickta59
so next thing NSA/Google/Amazon puts stuff on there to constantly spy on me and I have no way to get rid of it
without being illegal .. hence of course being a terrorist ... why wouldn't you want to be spied on if you aren't a terrorist right?
Spirilis
just 5GHz yeah
supposedly that's a freq used for weather radar
at least that's the vague hint of a reason for it I could see
ike
If I was american I would run to canada while I still can
USA now looks like N. Korea
Spirilis
canada sounds nice if it wasn't so fu*king cold in the winter
Rickta59
i don't think they want a bunch of old American terrorists
Spirilis
as a side note, I may get a chance to visit Toronto for work next year
Rickta59
in the winter?
Spirilis
heh most likely
Rickta59
i went one year in Feb?
to ottawa
the rental care was covered in frozen ice
they didn't even bother to clean it before giving it to me
Spirilis
lol
Rickta59
heh ..
they were all sitting around watching curling
Spirilis
moral of the story, bring a hammer on the plane in case you have to smash the ice off your rental car
Rickta59
i forget what we used to clean it
ike
remember when Ronald Reagan was president? Shuttles flying every day
Rickta59
maybe i just drove it
ike
winning space/star wars
wining cold war
Rickta59
we will be like that again soon ike
President Trump will be fixing all these problems
ike
and now when you say 'merican - everyone imagine latino rednex nigger
Rickta59
we have evolved ike
