MrM0bius
Rickta59, i dont have the link but one guy who got a 6502 going on his mcu went on and tried to do as many other ones as possible like Z80 and 1802
Rickta59
fun
i've been searching around for stuff like that
cortex-m0 on an avr seemed kind of interesting
i was thinking about how one might use external sram to run code on the msp430
have you see the sweet 16 thing ..
the 6502 thing that implements some custom opcode by messing with the stack pointer to interpret its own custom instructions
@ MrMobius
MrMobius
Rickta59, i have thought about external sram too. do you mean putting an interpretter in flash?
I thought about making a BASIC interpretter like that
Rickta59
i was more thinking about how to put the msp430 code on ram
MrMobius
i havent seen the sweet 16 thing. link?
Rickta59
and then using some trickery to load it
MrMobius
i know there is the subroutines woz made called sweet 16 that do 16 bit math
there is this also which blew me away http://laughtonelectronics.com/Arcana/KimKlone/Kimklone_intro.html
Rickta59
http://www.6502.org/source/interpreters/sweet16.htm
MrMobius
basically he traps unused opcodes in hardware to add more memory and opcodes. speeds things up a lot apparently
ya i think ive seen that before. neat.
Rickta59
interesting, i had not seen that one
MrMobius
although you can probably do everything he does there with the 16 bit version of the 6502 which im guessing wasnt out back then
ya, very clever. the guy who made it is very active on the forums too.
good for him that he was willing to figure out bus states for every cycle of every op code and burn that into an EEPROM. i had that option with my 6502 thing and decided to skip it
Rickta59
:)
yeah reading this .. makes me realize how dumb i really am :)
MrMobius
im sure thats not true
the 6502 is about as simple as it gets
Rickta59
i mean the extended memory thing
kimklone
MrMobius
ya
i had big plans for something like that with a cpld but the forums guys always say "get a 65C816"
Rickta59
heh
MrMobius
its the answer for everything
Rickta59
which forum is this?
MrMobius
6502.org
that and 43oh are the only two i visit daily
Rickta59
ah .. there you are
MrMobius
the off topic stuff is kind of neat too. a guy had either VGA or NTSC going with just 74xx logic. he calculated the gate delay for every path of every signal through the chips to get the timing right
Rickta59
i hadn't read that forum yet
membiblio
Hey guys - I'm using CCSv6 and Run and Debug have disappeared - what happened? I've seen this before but restarting fixed it, this time it does not. I also opened another project - same thing. :(
Howdy Rickta59
Ok So the answer is - The Perspective was Set to Resource when it needed to be set to Debug. Ugh! :)
Rickta59
there you go
i noticed that they have have done some upgrades to the project wizards
they seem to have added some of the missing features in the ldscript
membiblio
Freaking Crazy - jeepers
:)
How are you Rickta59?
Rickta59
doing ok you?
membiblio
Good. Busy thankfully.
Rickta59
now there are sections for .upper.data .. .upper.text .. .lower.rodata
.upper.bss
membiblio
Where is this at?
Rickta59
makes it simpler to move stuff around
membiblio
Have you done bit bang i2c?
Rickta59
if you create a new project .. at least for the msp430fr5969
i haven't done much i2c
membiblio
in the .ld file?
Rickta59
yeah
the idea of it has been around ...
but they didn't have it in the processor chips
it was in the test ld script the compiler guys used
so you had to add it ourself before now
..
could have been there a long time
i just happened to be messing with the chip and noticed it
as my old wizard generated ld script didn't have it ..
i added it
and then created a new project for something else and i noticed it did it right now
hmm .. and now i just got notification there is an update
new ti msp430 compiler 4.4.5
membiblio
You don't use the TI compiler do you?
Is it limited?
Rickta59
sure
they are still sticking it to you : )
membiblio
You use it or it is limited?
Rickta59
i'm using gcc 4.9.1
membiblio
That is what I use. GCC exclusively.
Ok I have to go take a nap and then get up and make this i2c bit bang work. Have a great one and thanks for being there! :)
Rickta59
sure
membiblio
tty soon
What are you working on btw?
Rickta59
messing with fabooh
on the msp430fr5969
using it to run a 6502 emulator on the chip
membiblio
What is that? (Oh the parts I ordered are not yet showing on tracking)
Rickta59
turns the msp430fr5969 into a 6502 processor
membiblio
Nice. I used to use 6502 35 years ago on a Rockwell aim65 ?
Rickta59
so you can run 6502 code on it
yeah like that
membiblio
Nice. You can make a atari
Rickta59
easier to make a kim1
membiblio
Have you seen any little thermal printers around that are cheap?
Oh yes!
I forgot about those!
Rickta59
no . but haven't looked
membiblio
Imsai, kim1 - wow
looking back they were so simple and yet challenging and fun at the time
Rickta59
you are an old dude
