MrMobius, straight 5V is a bit much for it. Just don't leave it on a long time if you feed it direct 5V

MrMobius, it does have an internal resistor. That doesn't mean that resistor can take any voltage or limit always to the same current

Rickta59, i dont know if im doing it right though. there are two banks of memory and im storing the 3 bit page on a set of pins until i need it
i dont know if that is the correct way but i think only pins have flip flops attached to them
if you see what i mean. 9 pins for a 3 pin output

It was very rudimentary text-only (Lynx running on a SunOS server run by the local library) that I was dialling up into with a 286 and 2400bps modem (all my parents would bother to buy me back then)

It's often a source of headache to get it going, but I really like it for a simple local-to-chip network
10K at the maximum. I prefer 2.2-4.7K for I2C

If there's a weird or unrelated reason you want to go so high, you can do it so long as you're running the bus REALLY slow
but you'd also have to make sure the hardware you're interfacing with doesn't have any quirks or hangups about going so slow (I can't imagine it would, but you never know)

Spirilis - I compromised by using 4.7K - Lower than 10 but more than 2.x

4.7K is good, that is the NXP standard
(NXP invented i2c, well, back when they were Philips Semiconductor)
although I think technically 4.7K is specified for running at 5V, but it works fine at 3.3V too (2.2K might be ideal if you want to get strict)

much of that is about 5 volts so with 3.3 it is even worse

nah Tiva-C is 3.3V I know
basically everything above the msp430g2 there's no good reason to use 3.6V except for better 5V input capability
all of them can run at max speed at 2.7V+

3.3V is just around the fine line of where you can start to run 16MHz

probably easier to just add a sd card and create an "os" that could load real msp430 code from the card
and maybe some spi ram to spaw code in and out
but seems like there is plenty of memory to do a 80's style computer using a launchpad
