voodoofish
finally got around to finishing my nrf24 board for the 2452 chip....ordered and on it's way...
username2
nice :)
I used the CC2500 in a project
I wish I had just used the NRF24...
Here she is: http://www.zallus.com/images/2_4_ghz_front.jpg
voodoofish
This is the final board. https://644db4de3505c40a0444-327723bce298e3ff5813fb42baeefbaa.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/uploads/project/top_image/7iFSJavj/i.png
not sure if you can view it.
or the render of the board
put the order in today.
username2
heh messy, just use imgur
yup, can view it
Nice
voodoofish
I just click on the link for my project....so it was what was there.
username2
did you buy the board already?
voodoofish
yeah.
username2
ahhh
voodoofish
I was kinda like, bleh if I have any issues I'll deal with it...
username2
was gonna reccomend you put 5016 GND clip on there. Sooo nice for troubleshooting
voodoofish
is it a part in the eagle lib?
username2
http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/5016/36-5016CT-ND/278888
perfect for osciloscope ground
not sure... I don't use premade libs or eagle
voodoofish
This is actually based on another board I worked on, though it's slightly tweaked at this point.
but I know that one worked, so this slightly modded one should be fine. :)
username2
I see you used an MSP430, hence the TST RST & GND programing interface :)
well... and u stated G2452...
voodoofish
yep
username2
why no G2553? Saving the extra buck?
voodoofish
didn't need the 2553
Why use something that is just overkill. :)
username2
heehee, 16kb the extra mem is nice sometimes
voodoofish
2452 has the 16bit spi as well.
yeah, but I'm using maybe 3k of 8...
username2
16bit spi? thats interesting
voodoofish
or somewhere around there, even the 2452 seems like overkill.
username2
i've only seen 8bit, or DMA buffer controlled SPI
voodoofish
2231had the 16bit spi as well
username2
but the G2553 didn't?
ahh well, either way i'd probably just use 8bit
too many packages have an odd # of bytes
voodoofish
the 2553 uses the usci perif which is 8 bits wide from what I recall..
username2
packets*
voodoofish
in the end, I had a bunch of 2452's I'd ordered as samples so...figured, why not use em. :)
username2
Yea why not?
those 0603s?
voodoofish
0805's 0603's are a bit small for me
too old and don't have the steady hand that I used to.
username2
ahhh, yea 0603s are where I draw the line
though i'm really tempted to go to 0402s now that i'm a bit more practiced @ 0603s
still can't hand solder either though....
voodoofish
I think I could do 0603's if I really needed to conserve space and if I wanted to keep a small footprint...
I know there is an art to hand populating a board....
username2
I just use the hotair gun for replacements & reflowing for the initial soldering. Even me with my jerky hands can manage that
voodoofish
I really need a hotair gun.....soon I'll get one...
username2
ouch yea, hard to live without one :)
voodoofish
for certain part, I'm sure.
Rickta59
neat board voodoofish
what are you doing with that board username2 ?
username2
Rickta59 it was microwave engineering practice
Its a portable 2.4ghz source that I would feed into custom designed antennas
Rickta59
how well does it perform?
username2
then read the RSSI on the other end
well... it performed better than TIs reference board
Rickta59
so an antenna testing board?
username2
yup
Rickta59
can you use it to test pcb antenna?
username2
and for whenever else I need a portable transciever
yup... I used it to test a PCB antenna
Rickta59
why not just use the cc430 ?
doesn't that have a cc2500?
username2
CC430s I think are sub ghz?
Rickta59
ah .. yeah now that you say that ..
they must be the c1xxx
username2
+ I wouldn't want to be tied to a 430 core
Next step is to add a LNA + PA
anyone here by chance use/make a 2.4ghz power amplifier?
Rickta59
if they have, they haven't been talking about it ; )
username2
heh, you never know peoples backgrounds :)
I shouldn't have used a CC anything though
their running software is very painful
driver*
Rickta59
there is a radio engineer .. here some times
username2
that annoying "RF studio"
Rickta59
that 12 year olds father
hmm .. and i can't remember his nick right now
username2
RF stuff is fun. I should get more involved with a HAM group
Rickta59
the sons name is baboo
username2
hmm, no clue
Rickta59
yeah the dad hasn't been around in a long time ..
voodoofish
thanks Rickta59 now we'll see if it works when I get it :D
Rickta59
but I think that is his deal .. rf engineering
voodoofish
anyway, need to take off for a bit, afk
Rickta59
:) @ voodoofish tc
username2
see ya! take some pics of the board when finished
Rickta59
so how are your projects going username2 ? what is the latest?
rf stuff?
username2
lately I've been donig contract + grad school
hobby projects have been nudered as a result :(
Rickta59
are you still selling oven kits?
username2
yups, on the side for the fun of it
