cambazz
what I am interested in is syncronizing the clocks, right now I can do with 100-200 microseconds difference.
ike
there are gps modules only for time sync
cambazz
from the computer clock
hah
what should i google for?
i think they got 1pps output as well right?
ike
some of them have 10MHz
cambazz
i got http://ava.upuaut.net/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_60&product_id=52
ike: where? i google `gps time module` and cant find anything
Spirilis
ike: Orange Pi, neat, is that an Allwinner
I have actually gained some respect for Allwinner when my boss got some Cubieboard 1's on some deal last month
ike
cambazz why do you need presice time?
cambazz
for > 200$ you can get a rubidium standard.
Spirilis
this A10 based board actually stays online for weeks on end without randomly going out to lunch like my $45 beaglebone black
yep Allwinner H3
quad-core 1.6GHz ARM Cortex-A7
neat
cambazz
ike: I am playing. experimenting. i learned lots of stuff doing this
Spirilis
aww only 100Mbps ethernet
ike
http://www.allwinnertech.com/plus/view.php?aid=504
CPU have gigabit MAC
but now PHY
Spirilis
yeah
ike
and why do you need gigiabit
I have new lenovo laptop
Spirilis
I was gonna try Banana Pi soon with SATA and Gig-E
ike
and it have only 100mbps
no gigiabit
Spirilis
as a simple bulk disk backup node
Rickta59
the one time in 30 years i asked to get a file restored from some ops guy ..
Spirilis
however that unit is compelling, $19 for a quad core linux node
Rickta59
he was like .. hmm .. the tape was bad that day
Spirilis
haha
dude my boss and I are in charge of the tech behind the backup systems here
the tech sales guy for the vendor said it best yesterday in a meeting
Rickta59
yeah i knew that
Spirilis
there is no good backup software
they all suck
I agreed
knock on wood the backup system's been proper and stable ever since I did all my crap last month
but fu*k
Rickta59
i'm so out of touch on all that stuff
now i just put stuff online if i want to keep a copy
ike
like linus torvalds
Rickta59
obviously not a solution for a company
Spirilis
well the way they sell cloud to everyone in the corporate space...
you'd never know
Rickta59
bbiaf
cambazz
ike: there are gps disciplined oscillators, but they are as expensive as rubidium
ike
why do you need precise time
with GPS uart you get 1 second
isn't 1 second good for you?
cambazz
well because i want to sync the clocks and have them beat them at the same time.
Rickta59
you need to make them fall in love cambazz
cambazz
gps uart will give me 1 sec, but if we get to gps es with uarts sending data to two different clocks, are they going to be set exactly the same time? with computer over usb port i sync them 100microseconds apart.
with the gps, i think the data will arrive in a different time

ike
or you can move to germany https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DCF77
Rickta59
ike .. question about 433 MHz radio stuff
what is common in the US in that frequency?
ike
for US is 315NHz
Spirilis
915MHz
ike
and 315 is better than 454
Spirilis
er yeah 315 does have some sh*t I think
Rickta59
i was watching it on the SDR# stuff
Spirilis
jpnorair would know about 433
Rickta59
and i was wondering if it is my electric meter
Spirilis
he was going on about it at some point
Rickta59
every 30 seconds i see a blip
i searched around on the ham boards locally to see if i could see them talking about it ..
but nothing
ike
I think in USA you can emit on any frequency if it's low power
Rickta59
yeah then i thought it might be a consumer weather station near me
or maybe my car
ike
I can be 10miles away from you
there are cheap 433MHz modules that can do 100mW
and some people don't care

maybe it's ham beacon http://www.arrl.org/band-plan
Rickta59
maybe ..
but it is a regular short burst
am
