XTL
I never looked closer, but I probably have some of those (on blue boards or clone maples)
Spirilis
neat
my goodness, just looking at my Wire code as it's emerging from my fingertips....... SO much more compact and elegant with C++ templates than the horrific pile of dung I wrote last spring
thankfully that horrific pile of dung is somewhat well tested, so I feel confident following its patterns
but wow
yeah, wish I had used this template stuff back in the spring. It's making my previous project actually look elegant and maintainable...
just so much damned cruft I had to use with the ridiculous lookup tables for registers et al in my previous attempt
hell this could also be the basis of a patch against energia's current core to make its USCI peripherals not suck ass
USCI drivers rather
not that I care to concentrate on that right now
Rickta59
at one point i was thinking about going that way Spirilis .. as an alternate core that could live with the arduino core .. just a slightly different api
and then I thought .. the greatest thing about these boards is the on board debugger
and the arduino guys have said they probably will never add debugging, they think it is too much
do you buy from aliexpress or ebay XTL, I'd like to find a board with a gd32 on ebay .. althought I haven't seen one it may be hiding on a blue board
Spirilis
aliexpress yeah
Rickta59
: ( .. i logged out did i miss it?
Spirilis
as for the arduino thing, my thought is, I just want an arduino core that's defined well enough that it can be somewhat easily ported to a new platform or even have multiple customized cores for the same platform ... that's the main driving force behind AbstractWiring's separate folders (AbstractWiring vs Implementation/<arch-specific implementation>)
Rickta59
* talk about aliexpress
Spirilis
00:53 < Rickta59> do you buy from aliexpress or ebay XTL, I'd like to find a board with a gd32 on ebay .. althought I haven't seen one it may be hiding on a blue board
10:29 < Spirilis> aliexpress yeah
let me see if aliexpress has gd32
Rickta59
one or two .. most boards seem to be on taobao
Spirilis
ah yeah what is that anyway
ebay for china but only for chinese?
Rickta59
chinese only thing
yeah
there is a site that will buy for you and ship to us
yoybuy.com maybe? ... something like that
Spirilis
hrm not cheap but this was the first search result: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-GD32F103-Controller-module-development-board-WIFI-ZIGBEE-With-the-shell-ARM-PLC17/32380110595.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.2.fd1BuK&ws_ab_test=201407_3,201444_5,201409_3
lot of 10 chips for $2.40/pc free shipping: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-GD32F103VCT6-GD32F103-10pc-lot-QFP-IC/32359081522.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.18.fd1BuK&ws_ab_test=201407_3,201444_5,201409_3
Rickta59
the taobao board is like $3
Spirilis
that's it for search results
well there was another for a lot of 100 chips
Rickta59
yeah i really don't like doing aliexpress
Spirilis
is GD32 sufficiently different from stm32 f103 or would it make sense to use an stm32 discovery and use gd32 chips in your projects?
Rickta59
there are differences
Spirilis
ah k
yeah would be nice to have a cheap devboard for that then I guess
Rickta59
probably easier to dev with the board as you would see any issues during dev maybe
here is one for 2.33 ..
http://world.taobao.com/item/43196369961.htm?spm=a312a.7700714.0.0.CltU76#detail
the difference is the faster spec speed .. ( 100+MHz vs 76 ) and 0 ws vs 2 ws at top speed
Spirilis
ah k
are they pin compatible?
could you use hot air to swap the chips on an stm32 discovery
Rickta59
maybe
i'm waiting for someone to try that :)
Spirilis
hehe
Rickta59
i wonder what people are doing with these in china
Spirilis
lol that one $39 board is probably an example
fancy controllers
Rickta59
$39 ? or 39 Yuan?
that board i linked was 15 yuan and $2.33
Spirilis
$39
not saying that's what chinese buy
but it's probably an "example" of what they would do with it
Rickta59
i mean the end user who buys these
Spirilis
next gen led arrangements
hmm
Rickta59
maybe bbq monitors ;)
Spirilis
thinking about those RX's again
RX63T available at avnet for $3.20/chip, 25 stock, 64K flash/8K SRAM with an HRPWM type of driver, 100MHz 0WS flash, 12-bit ADC, 48 LQFP
Rickta59
that is an arm? or their own thing
Spirilis
seems like the RX63x series have survived well in terms of US distributor stock (avnetexpress), RX210 is slowly dwindling, RX111 isn't out and RX220 never had a chance
no that's Renesas RX
not arm
Rickta59
32 bit?
Spirilis
yeah
thinking of where to go with my abstractwiring port after msp430
Rickta59
: )
Spirilis
renesas RX never did have a shot at arduino besides some craptastic thing they made for their GR-Sakura board that was web based
Rickta59
using different arch with different peripherals helps you make it more general
Spirilis
yup
I think short term I want to implement msp430 value line, then msp430 fr59/69xx in my abstractwiring port
then leave msp430 behind for other platforms
the other msp430's just don't have compelling enough grunt to justify the time
Rickta59
what do you think about the shortcomings of the msp430-elf-gcc ?
most of the issues seem to be all around the 20bit stuff
Spirilis
well, tbh I don't know. I have been OK with what I have on my system so far...
...but I haven't dived into 20-bit yet
Rickta59
i was looking at some of the patches ...
that haven't made it into the ti version
Spirilis
yeah
Rickta59
seem pretty serious
and the libc stuff just makes me crazy
Spirilis
is this for int20 variable support, or does it prevent you from actually putting stuff >64K?
the libc stuff with hwmult is crazy
I agree
Rickta59
seems mostly centered around bogus code generation
Spirilis
how so? any e2e links?
Rickta59
i was looking at the gnu gcc mailing list patches
Spirilis
ah
Rickta59
https://www.google.com/?complete=0#q=site:gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc+msp430&complete=0&tbs=qdr:y
https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2015-05/msg00340.html this one seems useful
https://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/compiler/f/343/p/417242/1613329#1613329
read his response
"If only I had an up to date devices.csv file, then I could generate an up to date patch." .. that one kills me
the process was in place that Peter B was getting the latest stuff from TI
all that seems to have fallen away
which seems just the opposite of what should be happening seeing as it is all ti driven now
