you are able to look at maps on the phone while driving
at least in CA
colinmorris
Your attention is engaged with someone who's not in the car.
wonderyak__
phone calls are distracting enough for me without driving
HowardChicken
You Are Not So Smart did an excellent explanation of this.
colinmorris
haha @wonderyak__
If that person were in the car with you, (s)he might at least also react to an impending accident.
HowardChicken
A person in the car responds to queues you see
You drive through a construction zone, and you feel compelled to keep talking/listening because they don't know you need to pay attention.
wonderyak__
faceish to faceish conversation requires less concentration for me
phone calls are difficult
!s **BRAKE**
ew
that would FREAK me out
colinmorris
@HowardChicken Thanks for the introduction to You Are Not So Smart.
wonderyak__
arent computers slower than brains?

especially with cooking
one of my friends didn't say a word until he could speak in complete sentences
really weird

I'm so loving this show right now, guys.
wonderyak__
this is much better than Honda talk
Printscharming
This concept has been weighing on me so much lately with regards to a project I'd like to start.
chrismayell
So, now you can start it?? :)
wonderyak__
Printscharming: I've got like 4 of those :/
Printscharming
It's media/podcasting related...I have that classic fear that it's not good enough.
I wish Chris...working on getting to that point.
chrismayell
Yup, totally. I try to convince myself that it's about not wasting time & money. But it's really about this fear.
wonderyak__
I've moved onto the fact that the first thing is not going to be that good

If you can't write a great thing it's because the space you face is the space where a bit of lame thing goes, that gets you to the next great thing
There can be single paragraphs, or sentences, or scene changes that are nothing but 'this simply leads to somewhere else'
You'll never notice the three words the writer got stuck for a week on, they're read past in half a second
wonderyak__
and he brought up GRRM
it takes him YEARS to write a book
at one point he wrote most of a book and ended up tossing most of it out to retool it
Applejinx
Pretty sure they are huge books but it seems odd. How difficult is it to kill everybody? :D
wonderyak__
heh
there's just a lot of details
he might as well be writing a history
