hi
Kimryd
Hello
scattrbrain
ey
RoyBatty|2
it's alive!
I need to catch up on my Live skills, I was thinking to get some sonic academy videos
Kimryd
Best way to catch up is to throw yourself right innit
son
RoyBatty|2
anyone suggest websites or youtubers to check?
Kimryd
Sadowick knows some stuff but never uses anything other than samples
Sound on Sound has good articles pertaining to Live
The manual is actually really boom
https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/welcome-to-live/
All searcheable and categorized and sh*t just 4 u
The help view lower left is actually helpful, sometimes
scattrbrain
what do you mean by really boom Kimryd
Kimryd
Boom as in good as in cool as in great as in p cool bro
ebonics
yo
scattrbrain
yooo
Kimryd
Honestly, I haven't watched a youtube tut for moosic in months, not that I'm a super boom producer, but I find it more fun to explore the software than listen to someone explore it for me
scattrbrain

scattrbrain
https://soundcloud.com/scattrbrain (i have nothin up. im an amateur)
Kimryd
I'll follow because you show potential based on the last 4 lines of text you've written, yes
scattrbrain
lol. thx
i followed you for the same reason
Kimryd
ya but I linked u a track so listen to it! SEEN!
?!
scattrbrain
iight
you got a new synth?
is this your first track with it?
Kimryd
What new synth?
scattrbrain
microbrute
Kimryd
I haven't bought a hardware synth in like a year
I bought that a while ago
scattrbrain
ah ok
Kimryd
Haven't used it in a while too
scattrbrain
what's your opinion on romplers
nice track btw
Kimryd
Thank you
eh
scattrbrain
i too poor for hardware
Kimryd
I'll probably get hated on by a random but here's my opinion
Romplers are fine if you're a really, really new n00b
But I preach synthesis
scattrbrain
i like synthesis
but suck at it
Kimryd
Why use some sample of a synth if you can synthesize yourself
Of course
Takes a long while to get a hang of, but when you make dope-ass sounds you're like
damn...
I'm cool...
scattrbrain
how can i take a superior drummer sample
and make into these kind of drums
https://soundcloud.com/bleep_bot/machinedrum-aeolia
Kimryd
You can do mad sh*t to samples yo
I use Renoise as well as Live, Renoise is basically a giant sampler
scattrbrain
my drums aren't as tasty as his
i'll check renoise out
Kimryd
Gud drum sounds have multiple factors giving them the goodness
Good source sample
Good processing (read: affecting with... effects)
Good sequencing
Renoise is very different from Live though, I use it for more glitchy, breakcoreesque sh*t
Example of me in Renoise https://soundcloud.com/kimryd/im-lamen/s-ooIMs
scattrbrain
pretty cool
legit sounding
so not lame'n
Kimryd
Lame'n = Lame Amen
Amen break is the drum sample
Cleverness!
Thank you also
Ycros
Kimryd: I grabbed renoise recently to take a look at it, and I see the giant sampler perspective
what with all the dedicated sample manipulation things
which is odd to me because I'm heavy on synthesis, I tend to shy away from samples
Kimryd
Ycros, you can still use synths
you can even render the plugins to multisamples and them do the sample effect command madness on those samples!
Ycros
yeah but it just felt odd running through the tutorial and it talking about all the dedicated sample specific things that are right there in the sequencer as first class functionality
it feels like using synths sidesteps all that
it makes total sense why it's huge for breakcore now though
Kimryd
Well, I mean I've always used samples for percussion and beats
Ycros
I wonder if Redux is more my thing
Kimryd
In Live I just layer 3-5 sample for kixx and 2-3 for snares
Ycros
let it do what it does best
Kimryd
then then mangle samples for percussion
Yeah try redux
I personally haven't no need
Ycros
although I'd still like to try writing a whole track in renoise, just because
Kimryd
My first one was really tough to finish
especially getting used to automation in Renoise
but now it's no sweat
Ycros
I swear I'm going to end up trying to write my own DAW eventually
