hi
Ov3rload
Hi, is there a decent way to change tempo (and time signature) automatically in session view?
I have many songs which have tempo changes and want them to change tempo automatically, this seems to be impossible
Ycros
Ov3rload: right click on a scene and "edit launch tempo"
Ov3rload
Automatically is the key:P
i dont want to launch a scene manually
When the song reach a tempo change, i would like to actually change tempo with no user intervention
Apparently there are no follow action on scenes
Ycros
no
is it a completely automated set?
that's what arrangement view is for
Ov3rload
No, there are many song that are not played in order
Ycros
how do you pick a song to play if not by launching the scene for that song then?
Ov3rload
I lauch the scene for a song
Ycros
so put the BPM there
on that scene
Ov3rload
But how do i handle thempo changes INSIDE the song
Ycros
oh, right
well you can't without doing it manually, BUT there may be an m4l device that can do it
some people like to have a tempo knob midi mapped at all times to just manually tweak the tempo whenever (and smoothly transition between tracks)
Ov3rload
I found a device called Clyphx, but has 100ms delay on command triggered by clips, so it's not usable for this
Yeah but my plan is to play some kinda complex backing tracks with no warping, there is no way to set the tempo with a know with enough precision
Ycros
I was just thinking about clyphx
Ov3rload
It has 100ms delay on X-Clip commands
gargantua
poop in a bag
send it to your enemies
Ov3rload
I tried: the tempo change too late and the metronome is all screwed up afterwards
Ycros
hmm
Ov3rload
and X-Locators are for arragement view :(
Ycros
hmm nothing's jumping out at me on maxforlive.com either
so your tempo change is inside the clip? I mean you could just run in the wrong tempo, but that depends on what other clips play and if you have bpm synced effects
and/or external midi sync
Ov3rload
Yeah, i need to sync some vsts
Weird as something as simple as changing tempo is so hard, i guess it's because ableton is built around EDM where this is less common.
Guest55447
i need a rasping flavoured instrument
anyone familiar with a rasping flavoured instrument
egrouse
raspberry flavoured?
Guest55447
no
legreffier
i have a bass guitar
Guest55447
i'm using a drumkit sample on a loop now. i want something else..
legreffier
it's raping flavored.
Guest55447
no fun
^
legreffier
rape ain't no fun. never.
Guest55447
yeah
legreffier
i disagree with rape.
Pie_Mage
there's always ear rape
depending on your genre
legreffier
i produce dubstep.
+ im french.
egrouse
hey hey
statistically
9/10 people enjoy gang rape
legreffier
+ i got some gears @boulez research institute. enough said.
Pie_Mage
i would generally consider dubstep to be ear rape... or it can be
Ov3rload
I'm trying to assing a pedal to to switch scene, but when i press it it swiched multiple time. Assigning the pedal to a fader i see that when i press it send multiple messages, moving the fader gradually.
How do i turn that pedal in a on off switch in ableton?
Pie_Mage
pedal? like a pedal controller?
Ov3rload
yes, a normal sustain pedal
but each press it send multiple messages
Pie_Mage
oh ahh, I don't know that you can
I think expression messages are handled specially by ableton
iirc
you could try doing midi map, then moving the pedal
Ov3rload
yes i did that
Pie_Mage
did it map anything?
Ov3rload
but each time i press the pedal
it switch like 5 scenes
because as i said the pedal send multiple messages each press
Basically how do i turn a knob in a button?
Pie_Mage
Ov3rload: you have to change it's mapped range
i can't remember how expression pedals work, if they use high-resolution midi you might be out of luck
(pitch bend uses high-resolution midi messages as well...)
Ov3rload
There seems to be no way to do it in ableton, i had to use a midi vst and a loopback midi device
it's a normal midi 0-127 message
Pie_Mage
you should be able to map it... I dunno, I haven't used ableton in a while
<---- is a bitwiggler
Ov3rload
Bitwig miss so many features. I would love to use it since i prefer to use linux, but its not yet usable for me
I need to be able to change time signatures
Pie_Mage
you can change time signatures...
Ov3rload
Not automatically in session view
Unless they added it recently
Last time i checked there was no way other than do it manually and globally
Pie_Mage
you can add it to automation like anything else as far as I know
i actually just found it the other day
Ov3rload
sec, checking the demo now
Pie_Mage
you can in either mixer or arrangement mode
i've got plans to switch to using linux on my studio machine exclusively
Ov3rload
I can't find how to automate time signatures
Pie_Mage
i need a compatable audio interface first though
are you in the clip launching mode or arrangement mode?
Ov3rload
Both
Pie_Mage
in clip launching mode
double click on a clip in the master track, adding a clip to the slot
then edit the automation as you normally would
one sec, i'll go verify that this works in 1.1.11
Ov3rload
You can automate tempo
not time signatures
Pie_Mage
lol
sorry
