Pistachio
welcome
Jakey69
sup Pistachio
what ya up to
Pistachio
at my machine, scowling at my sound card
bought new Yamaha monitors, first thing I got to listen to was a crackling
Jakey69
Pistachio: what kind of music you making
Pistachio
boiled it down to the umc22 I was using
Jakey69
whats yours profession atm?
Pistachio
Electronic stuff, mostly 4 to the floor sh*t but Im not professional
Im coming to production from DJing
Jakey69
so you daily job is just Djing?
Pistachio
no my daily job is being a student, I part time in house and techno clubs in Ireland, and after my degree im going to try as a professional producer
Jakey69
well thats nice how old ar eyou
Pistachio
22
last year in college, then Im peacing out for Europe :)
Jakey69
well thats a good life
pays well atM
?
Pistachio
Not really
My IT degree should cover that
Jakey69
ah
obviously
nerds on irc
lol
Pistachio
of course!
anyone want to talk audio interfaces? Mainly external ones? Mainly budget external ones? Mainly quality budget external ones?
Jakey69
guess not lol
Ycros
heh
Pie_Mage
focusrite scarlett series are generally considered the best budget external interfaces at the moment
I have a presonus unit, and hated setting it up, but it all seems to work now
was just a pain, and i've heard of other issues with presonus gear
m-audio makes good stuff too, but I only have a fast track pro
which is like 10 years old now
Pistachio
I was thinking 2i4 all right
cool
Pie_Mage
so, dunno about modern stuff
but yeah, the 2i4 is solid from what I hear
(i've not used it personally but it seems like a solid unit)
has linux support too, if that matters at all :P
Pistachio
not atm no but could be useful :)
Ycros
I loves my motu ultralite
really it depends what sort of IO and things you want
Pistachio
I want midi
thats a must
cos Ive been drooling over getting some nice new synths for a while
Ycros
eh, anything newish is usb
Pistachio
Ycros: what area of music are you involved in?
Ycros
electronic music production, if that's what you mean by area
Pistachio
yep
cool
got much of a setup, if you don't mind me asking?
Ycros
yeah, hehe
I recently took everything apart and started rearranging my studio, half my stuff is still on the floor, I need to work out where to put it
I think I need another table or something
if you're looking at getting external hardware synths you may want to think about more IO on your audio interface
but, hmm, let me see, I have a minibrute, elektron stuff (rytm, keys, octatrack), tb-3, meeblips, blofeld, solaris, volcas
pile of controllers and things
Pistachio
nice, youve been doing this stuff for a while then :)
whats your take on the minibrute?
Ycros
I love it
it's just nice having a one knob per function synth with no layers
nice for basses n things.
Pistachio
gtroovy :)
*groovy
Ycros
I did a longish jam with just the minibrute running into a stereo delay two weeks ago https://soundcloud.com/sorcy/sketch-2015-09-13-solo-minibrute-and-delays
just constantly tweaking the sound
and using the built in arpeggiator
dunno, depends what you're after
it is just a monosynth
Pistachio
yeah
I dunno its still really freeform for me at the moment, just making beats that come to my head. Anything from trap to DnB, just for the sake of it. not good at finishing my projects thoug
