(Action) starts on 'simple components' pkg for bsd
... then whitakers words
Visaoni
(Action) is pretty sure he's just lost it, but here it is https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8841216
charlie5
Visaoni: you might have to do it in a package spec
test.adb:7:18: warning: not dispatching (must be defined in a package spec)
i don;t think 'f' is being recognised as a primitver operation
\primitive
Visaoni
ah, alright. that's kind of interesting
(Action) also just realized he's been up for a day
charlie5
(Action) tried that a week ago
still recovering
Visaoni
heh, I just about did it the day before last too :)
damn. seems I can't abuse Base
sometimes I wish Ada would let me abuse her a little bit
charlie5
:)
Visaoni
I just want to be able to cast to the parent type... that, and then use two subprograms and suddenly you have a configurable thing that defaults to calling the parent method (I think)
but... doesn't seem you can do the first part
charlie5
she'd likely hit back ... harder ;)
Visaoni
ha, probably
I wouldn't mind one of my ideas working at some point
one of the few that I think actually should work provoke a compiler bug, hilariously enough (although I haven't tested with the new release)
charlie5
ouch
Visaoni
one of these days I'll make a new language with all these horrible things I want to do and then maybe weep at the abomination I created
charlie5
Visada :)
naw, stick with ada ... just a matter of getting more familair
Visaoni
hey, there you go. that's got a nice ring to it
It's not just getting more familiar though. Ada does lack some things
I can't entirely blame them. C++ went down the route of really being a language for library writers and look at the insanity that can go on there
But, there's still some sh*t that's just kinda...bleh
Generally not much support for compile-time stuff. Generics are never static, even if known statically, for example
charlie5
yeah, i guess she ain't quite perfect
... yet ;)
sparre
charlie5: http://www.jacob-sparre.dk/ada/videos/case-statements.ogv
charlie5
my generics experience is pretty basic, so don;t realy know of the limitations
sparre: :D ... thanks
Visaoni
I wouldn't mind something a little templateish in some areas too. There's areas with a lot of overlap between say, integer, modular, floating, and fixed point types
charlie5
(Action) settles in for 12 mins of ada entertainment
mmm ... strawberries
very good sparre ... hope you go well in the comp
sparre
charlie5: Glad you liked it.
Any issues?
charlie5
sparre: not really ... a full stop was missing in strawberries msg but i hardly think that matters much :)
the static predicate usage was nice
sparre
:-)
Visaoni
it's kind of... soothing, actually
sparre
Not too much background noise?
Visaoni
nah
sparre
No annoying details? (Besides the missing full stop. ;-)
Visaoni
nothing that stood out to me
sparre
Good.
charlie5
no annoying details ... i enjoyed it
sparre
I've submitted the MP4 version now.
Good.
I'll put it on my own website too, then.
charlie5
sparre: now let us see the early 'blooper' versions ;)
sparre
charlie5: There aren't any. Some (now deleted) sound checks, but no bloopers.
First take.
charlie5
awww
heh, it took me 6 'takes' of recordmydesktop to get the architect demo video up
and i didn;t have to talk in that :)
sparre
I had a reasonably detailed (one A5 sheet) script, and had run through the presentation once without speaking out loud.
But remember that I'm used to teach.
Visaoni
Ah, that might help :)
what did you teach?
sparre
Mathematics, physics, software engineering and statistics.
Visaoni
that's quite the group
sparre
Statistics felt like punishment.
Visaoni
heh, I have more statistics coming up in a few months :)
although I'm hoping I can convince the powers that be that my biology statistics is basically the same as their computer science statistics so perhaps I'll be spared (haha?)
charlie5
has anyone used gprinstall ?
Visaoni
me...
not... entirely impressed
charlie5
it worked ok ?
ah
Visaoni
but I am on windows
compile everything with gnatmake, so it uses the right compiler, then gprinstall will move it to the correct location
charlie5
i might try it out a bit
Visaoni
probably fine on bsd
charlie5
yeah, i'm hoping to use it for kazakov simple components install
Visaoni
part of what I used it for, actually
charlie5
mm, well it appears it may not be :/
Visaoni
linux then!
probably fine on linux
charlie5
yep
npt sure hwat prob ison bsd
(Action) may find out :)
Visaoni
bset of luck
charlie5
lol
so i'm having a bad typo day ... ;)
Visaoni
oh, wow. I didn't even notice...
I was laughing about my own typo. totally missed your sentence of full of them
charlie5
heh, 3 in one short sentence ... not good
Visaoni
4 :P
well
no
... maybe I do need that extra stats class
charlie5
heh
xmlada on freebsd uses gprinstall, at least
mm, or not
Visaoni
what happens on BSD?
