Visaoni
But yeah, "look at this thing we resurected from the 80s (or whatever)" isn't a great way to get people on board
Dhark8
Visaoni: I don't know that it should be public or anything, but I think the initial design should consider it... otherwise we'll have to deal with "bolted on" later.
Visaoni: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rational_R1000 <- 80's tech... contained features that are just now becomming in-vogue/standard in the industry.
Visaoni
Dhark8: Well, partly I just really don't think it should ever be included, but incompatible licensing stuff is probably enough to support the more integrated part
I'm not saying ideas from the 80s are bad, I'm saying telling people you brought back old tech doesn't often excite them
unless they're history buffs :)
Dhark8
Fair enough.
Lucretia
Dhark8: like what features?
Dhark8
So what we do is take the idea, re-design it for Ada 2012, and call it Ada Intermediate Representation (AIR).
Visaoni
you've even got a good name. I like it
Dhark8
Lucretia: Version control is one which only fairly recently has the lack of which become "ridiculable" by the industry.
The debugger was "time traveling"... which is a bleeding-edge tech feature right now.
^-- still uncommon.
Lucretia
as in being able to go back to a particular instruction in the code?
or go back in state of the debugger?
Dhark8
go back in state of/with the debugger.
Shark8
There.
marble_visions
ugh, I fell asleep
gonna read everything tomorrow
good night! :)

bedzzzzzzzzzzzz
Visaoni
I wonder what the problem with Ada on gentoo is
Shark8
I think it had to do with their packaging practices.
...wasn't somebody here on #Ada working to get an updated Ada on gentoo?
Visaoni
could be. seem to be a few folks around here that take some strange enjoyment in updating packages and the like
Shark8
Yeah, strange.
Visaoni
I mean, I'm quite glad they do, but it's still strange :)
Shark8
lol -- I was agreeing with you perfectly there.
