tkoskine
Good morning.
sparre
Good morning tkoskine (et al.)
nerdboy
er, not moin!
sort of
sparre
nerdboy: Cheers anyway!
nerdboy
technically after midnight, so nm...
move along
nothing to see here...
Natacha
isn't it always after some instance of midnight?
sparre
(Action) is brewing a second cup of espresso before doing any programming.
Natacha
(that's what I never understood about gremlins)
sparre
Natacha: Yes.
nerdboy
it's always relative to local time
gremlins are like that
sparre
And the sun is always shining (at least for the next millions of years)
Natacha
even considering only local time, when it's 23h 59min after midnight, it's still after midnight, right?
I mean we're always after the latest midnight, and always before the next midnight, so when can mogwais can be safely fed?
nerdboy
when the sun is shining is safe bet...
charlie5
on the stoke of midnight ?
a quickish snack

It was working OK last night... "
:)
(bugzilla)
Visaoni
charlie5: well, took a further look/think about the prng and tagged types (and interfaces). still not doable in a trivial way that's nice :/
I think I just end up needing to do the same kind of silliness required with straight generics. with all the various things I need control over. at least one thing gets in the way
charlie5
hi Visaoni
Visaoni
heya
charlie5
is it worth others taking a look at the tagged/interface versions ?
ie me ? ... :)
Visaoni
I didn't even really write anything. I haven't worked with interfaces and just needed to see what they were capable of
charlie5
i have trouble with generics but may be more use with tagged etc
Visaoni
which as it turns out, isn't quite enough :)
charlie5
ah, ok
Visaoni
oh... hm
interfaces don't work, but maybe if I did everything as an abstract type, and then provided actuals in a generic package... hm
well
no
(Action) needs bloody primitive generic subprograms
charlie5: say you had some tagged type that needed a subprogram that returned a user-specified type. how would you do it?
charlie5
(Action) ponders
(that's my excuse for getting a fresh b ... cup oif coffee
Visaoni
irish coffee?
charlie5
nothing quite so tasty
a user derives from the base type ans wants to return his own 'kind of data' ?
and
Visaoni
doesn't need to derive from the base type. I have an implementation that works for any kind of (discrete) type I just need to know *what* type the user wants
charlie5
sort of hard to guess w/o any code
sounds like a good use for generics
heh
as you've no doubt tried
Visaoni
ha :)
lemme check what I've currently got...
even with the code I have, I fear I'd need a bunch of explainations about things needed that aren't obvious from what I've got
maybe I need to take some inspiration from Shark8 and do a write-up and take it around begging for comments :)
charlie5
naw
just the post the code you have :)
will be easiesr to pick up the gist of it
nm, how it looks
Visaoni: or post the specs would be better
Visaoni
charlie5: actually, looking at it... I didn't even start work on one big change to the interface I decided to make
the troublesome subprogram would not be so troublesome with this interface :P
not to helpful to post
*so
originally I was planning on sticking with a superset of the standard random packages
charlie5
hok, no probs
i guess my usual advice holds ... take specific probs to cla ... they're a helpful bunch, tho a thickish skin helps :)
(Action) got beaten down with his 'lowercase verbs' cla post
Visaoni
if they can figure out a way to make Ada do everything I want, they can treat me like a pinata for all I care
cbm99
quick question: in gnat-gps, how do I get the project view to update the list of subprograms/types in each file?
charlie5
(Action) whacks Visaoni
... awww, no lollies fell out :(
not even a dohnut :/
Visaoni
not even a doughnut? you'd exepect a doughnut more than a lolly from a pinata?
something is very wrong with you people on the wrong side of the world
cbm99: no idea, don't use gps myself
charlie5
cbm99: just clicking on the source file window usually does it
Visaoni: tbh, when i bash a poor defenseless stuffed animal dangling from a tree, i rarely know quite what to expect may come out
:)
Visaoni
poor defenseless stuffed animal? it's a pinata. a vile, evil pinata filled with goodies
properly individually wrapped goodies :)
charlie5
ah, i hadn't realised it was the very maifestation of evil !!
Visaoni
I mean, why else would it be full of goodies that come out when you hit it...
it's the only explaination
charlie5
Saurons Belly, Satans Backside & Saruman Sauage Sauce
glug (Sausage) ... sigh, all that time thinking of evil S words, and i muffed the spelling
Visaoni
I'd be pretty concerned if you didn't stuff the spelling
charlie5
(Action) was about to get on his high horse and say that pinata seemed bizarre/almost barbaric ... then realised that he participated in a 'greased piglet' contest as a 10 year old .... (piglet gets greased then set loose on a football field ... a swarm of 5-15 yo's chase it ... whoever gets hold wind the pig to eat)
wins
Visaoni
that's um...
I think you win
charlie5
(Action) thinks he just put .au world relations back about 50 years
egilhh
mmm... piglet...
(Action) is hungry
Visaoni
it's okay. you just have to talk about the deadly things and nobody will remember after the first 2 or 3
charlie5
(shades of Lord of the Flies)
anyone know what the contest status is ?
Visaoni
haven't seen dbotton around for awhile
charlie5
he may have got sick of me asking 'is the contest result in yet ... is the contest result in yet ... is the contest result in yet ... is the contest result in yet ... '
Visaoni
pretty sure it's been longer than that since I last saw him around :P
