Lucretia: when I thought about it, it was more along the lines of "intro to programming, with Ada as the first language"

sukaeto_: Hasn't Mike Feldman written a book for that purpose? And the red OOP book may also be a good choice, if it still is in print.

red OOP book?

Mine is in a box in the basement.
It could be this one: http://www.amazon.com/Ada-95-Craft-Object-Oriented-Programming/dp/0132303507 (although mine has a different cover)
Looks like it is available as a PDF as well: http://babdoc.free.fr/mag_info/John%20English%20-%20Ada%2095%20The%20Craft%20of%20Object-Oriented%20Programming.pdf
(Action) has played a bit with GtkAda and file selection today. It isn't quite as elegant as I would like it to be.
cnngimenez
hi to all!
Can I ask a question? :-)
jk4
appears that you can :)
cnngimenez
seems so... :_P
well, I'm trying to read a file using Get_Line(F1)
and when the file has a "[" it says this:
raised CONSTRAINT_ERROR : s-wchcnv.adb:77 explicit raise
jk4
so you're using wide chars?
cnngimenez
yep
GNAT compiler, and using wide_wide_characater
jk4
is that characder encoded properly?
cnngimenez
UTF8 I suppose, emacs says that...
jk4
i don't think wide and utf8 are the same
wide is 16 bits yeah?
utf8 is .. 8
cnngimenez
ah...
you're right!
but why reads all the others characters well? .. I try with common characters
jk4
it's just that one huh?
cnngimenez
mmm... let's try :-)
jk4
does get_line require a new line?
i can't remember
cnngimenez
don't know.. I think it reads up to the "\n" character
but, I have created my own getline for testing
jk4
orly
cnngimenez
I'll use that and then I'll convert to the type I need...
then I correct everything...
jk4
sounds expensive
cnngimenez
jajaj :D takes time... the Ada doesn't like mistakes :-P jajjaaj :D
Ada just want things right :-P
jk4
it tries :)
cnngimenez
ohhh! genius! gnatlink: warning: executable name "test" may conflict with shell command
mmm... I think I shouldn't use "test.adb" as a filename :-P
the test.adb works :-P
I used only characters, not wide_ nor wide_wide_character
sep, you were right jk4 I can reproduce the problem using wide characters...
jk4
i guess we ought to see some code
cnngimenez
so, my conclusion: if Ada tells you that you're wrong, better you check the code more than twice :-P
no problem, I'll do a push and I send the URL
a minute :-)
Here: https://bitbucket.org/cnngimenez/finding-ada
GPLv3 Licenced :-)
jk4
i'm have to go to class. i'll try to look at it once i arrive
cnngimenez
no problem :-)
have a nice day :-)
jk4
where am i looking?
