florist: Florist is an open-source implementation of IEEE Standard 1003.5b-1996, the POSIX Ada binding, so named because it was developed at Florida State University. See http://www.cs.fsu.edu/~baker/florist.html for details.
or: Current versions of the Florist source may be downloaded from AdaCore's libre site: http://libre.adacore.com/

!help
nice, is the bot also written in Ada?
wtp
<Lucretia> Yes, Randy and others suggested storing objects in a container and let the container handle disposing the objects. For example, instead of the container holding access values, have the container have the object and when container goes away, so do all the objects.

!adapower
Allegra--
Sorry, I couldn't find anything that matches "adapower"
Visaoni
antranigv: I'm not sure. I think jk4 runs the thing
Lucretia
nerdboy: dunno what RfI is
wtp: ah yeah
nerdboy
it's thing they put out before an RfQ/RfP
Visaoni
hm. is there a non-viral socket library that covers things like TCP out of band/urgent? (although I will admit I haven't checked if florist does cover this even)
oh, maybe GNAT.Sockets.Thin does work for that...
Lucretia
nerdboy: yeah, that didn't help. what's that?
Request for Information? Request for Quotes? Request for Peni?
:P
nerdboy
2 out 3 isn't bad...
*out of even
Lucretia
proposals?
well, just got an email from dbotton, apparently only 3 of us entered. Just goes to show, Ada might just be a lost cause :/
I've asked hi if he wants to extend the deadline
nerdboy
entered what?
Lucretia
learnadanow.com competition
the idea was to produce a video of "something awesome" in Ada
and only 3 people bothered. I only managed a quick 4min vid at the very last minute.
the aim was to attract more people to the language.
3 vid's just won't do that
we may sa well just give up
s/sa/as
nerdboy
try it again with cookies?
s/cookies/hookers/
Visaoni
cookies and hookers can't hurt
Lucretia
or as you're one of the oldest Adaists you could show us something awesome on video
OCTAGRAM
fe[nl]ix: GNOGA author recommends using Ada from TDM-GCC package
nerdboy
if i had something cool i'd show it off...
*something Ada-cool...
Visaoni
I was intending to enter, but it was a *bit* larger than the things I've seen (although I've yet to see anyting besides sparre's)
and it wasn't something that would actually be useful, and not the easiest thign to demo...
wtp
hmm, bummer. I thought about entering the LearnAda contest, but I didn't think my idea was "awesome" enough
In retrospect I think I should have done it anyway...
tkoskine
Lucretia: I skipped the contest on purpose. I don't really like making (or watching) videos. Text and some pictures suit better for me.
Visaoni
^
videos only really work for the presentation of the broad strokes of an idea, and even there text is still superior
nerdboy
a video like that would be more like a narrated slideshow
Visaoni
yes, that's pretty much what I mean
nerdboy
works pretty good, the AMS has been recording presentations that way for years...
slides w/audio
Visaoni
it's fine for broad strokes
nice even, when you want to half pay attention to it
but it's still terrible for really getting into anything remote complex
Lucretia
I was expecting more due to the sh*t state this language is in atm
charlie5
mm, i actually quite like videos, esp with voice ... like being back in lectures (assuming it's a quality vid)
reboot
Lucretia
yo charlie5
charlie5
heya Lucretia
few days off ?
(work)
Lucretia
yup
literally, few
charlie5
:/
mm, aug 7
(Action) taps foot impatiently
Lucretia

charlie5

(Action) wants to tame gl b4 tackling vulkan
they can't mothball gl overnight
surely !
:)
Lucretia
ahhh
nah, it's still gonna be around
but I do want to get onto it binding wise
charlie5
yeah, i guess an early start wold be nice
still, there is a lot to do with gl 1st
how goes sdlada ?
i've got most of the archy/bsd pkg builds mostly done, so might get a chance this weekend to try it
Lucretia
having a break from sdl
but you can still try it
charlie5
hok .. i have the repo on my desktop
Lucretia
they put a lot of stuff into sdl, it's bigger than you think
have a pull, it's at 2.1.0 now
charlie5
2 doz or so updates
i think someone here said they might try the ada archlinux pkgs ? ... if so, how did it go ?
Lucretia
dunno
yeah, because gentoo's is sh*te
it was one of the newbies
charlie5
a little feedback would be nice
Lucretia
aye
charlie5
(Action) puts another log on the fire
Lucretia
it was antranigv
antranigv
Lucretia: yes? what was I?
ah, gentoo, yes, gnat was not compiling itself in gentoo(funtoo), so I had to install the binaries from Adacore.
Lucretia
you were going to try arch
antranigv
Lucretia: yes, on my other computer, that's for sure and only for gnat (:
