Lucretia
yup
charlie5
i 1st heard of risc back in earlt 90's
Lucretia
I reckon one of these new pic32mz's at 200mhz should be able to provide me a groovy gfx chip :D
charlie5
:)
vulanised, no doubt
so if you're not doing sdlada, are you doing car game ?
(Action) points out immaculate typing
Lucretia
vulkanised
missa k :D
still going to do the car physics demo yeah
just having a detour
:P
charlie5
fewer instructions sounds good to me ... bring on nanoputers with electron entanlgement networking
(Action) has terrian and animated humans 'almost' ready to go
not sure if there is a car crash animation tho
maybe just go ragdoll and let physics take over
ragdoll looks gruesome enuff as is
(Action) suddenly wonders why he is promoting gruesome car/pedstrian collisions
Lucretia
cos they're fun?
charlie5
not so much for the pedestrian :)
tbh, i'd be happy to see the animated human code used anywhere
preferably in one of my games tho :)
(should any ever surface)
antranigv1
(Action) is going to install archlinux to try gnat installation
charlie5
antranigv: thanks ... any probs let me know
there is a list of pkgs on cla post from a week or so back

marino_
charlie5: where's your port?
charlie5
marino_: link pending
https://www.assembla.com/spaces/openada/documents/cbNviSpryr5zlcacwqEsg8/download/cbNviSpryr5zlcacwqEsg8
marino_: it is, of course, version 0.1

So, hi all.
Did I miss anything while I was away?
Gathis
how 'alive' is ada? (the language, not this channel).
Lucretia
alive
Gathis: what are you doing with ada?
Gathis
i learnt some ada at university, ada, c, iso-pascal, cobol and some shell scripting.. I was at uni several decades ago ;)
i liked c and ada, even tho very different. iso-pascal was.. useless, and i'd rather rip my hair out than ever look at cobol ever again
Shark8
Gathis: It's doing ok; it's used a lot in the safety-critical world, and we are trying to push into more general programming (i.e. "the wider industry"). Several of us are pushing to improve the Ada ecosystem. [I'm starting plans on a CPAN-like repository/service.] DBotton is developing Gnoga, which is a UI-ish tool. And we [#Ada] have been talking about doing a community/open-source compiler.
We've got a survey -- https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15mmK_qV8P9DKEhHUnIb1RFElQFTjVTZHH0S6pO1iWrQ/viewform?usp=send_form -- to try to help us determine where exactly the ecosystem needs work. (There's a lot of metrics, so we can see if there are correlations in the percived needs.)
Gathis
when i compiled ada it was years ago, i used a compiler on an ancient archimedes, and was compiling it on a sun sparkstation at uni
i thought there were free compilers already tho
jk4
there are
marino_
charlie5: why "post-build" and "pre-install" ?
charlie5: btw, both of these might be cleaner with iterations
there are probably issues referencing STAGEDIR
stagedir is temporary. the project is at /usr/local/lib/gnat, not $STAGEDIR/usr/local/lib/gnat
ah, i see what you are doing
you couldn't figure out how to customize do-build so you disabled it and used post-build
Lucretia
Gathis: yeah, you're better off with Ada than Pascal
marino_
charlie5: it's a decent attempt. I'll need to rework this a bit
Gathis
lol, no contest. they look a little similar, but 'standard' pascal is totally useless
i was just interested in where ada was currently in use, it'd be nice to do some work with it again
Lucretia
what kind of work you interested in?
Gathis
i'm not sure, i'm not looking for paid work, i'm interested to know where and how it is used, and whether there is any current practical use of ada on low end systems (in terms of cost).
safety critical systems tend not to be low cost, as cost isn't the primary concern ;)
Shark8
Gathis: There's some stuff for microcontrollers, I'm not the guy for that... but there are several here on #Ada that do.
Gathis
ok, thnx
Lucretia
you can compile gnat (now it's fixed) for any cpu that gcc has a backend for, you'l just need to create a minimal runtime for it yourself unless it's avr or (in part) some arms
Gathis: I can provide a prebuilt compiler for some if you're on a 64-bit linux
Gathis
i have run 64bit freebsd, the only linux install i currently have is on a R-Pi, which is 32bit ARM
*-have
Lucretia
well, you can try my scripts if you like
but they're 4.9.2 atm
Gathis
ty Lucretia, i'll look when i've time to do it justice.
darkestkhan
charlie5: for all we know it is possible that People's Republic of North Korea is using Ada
(Action) saw weather forecast...
I have never asked for so much Sun... where can I return it?
antranigv
darkestkhan: save it for winter?
darkestkhan
antranigv: I first need to live all the way to winter, and at current ratio I will die from heat exposure
Visaoni
well you certainly can't return it here!
we have too much already
antranigv
darkestkhan: where are you? o.O
darkestkhan
south-west Poland
37°C and up in shade...
forecast for 42 in Monday
antranigv
42, good number, bad weather :/
Visaoni
... you might have more sun than us
darkestkhan
[it is freaking August already!, such temps are normal for second half of June and first of July, not for August]
Visaoni
I'm sitting here bi**hing about it being 27+
antranigv
Visaoni: and from where are you?
Visaoni
California
antranigv
yes, half of june, first of July was hot here in the Netherlands :/
however, the hottest I've ever been was in Syria.
Visaoni
did you go in the middle of summer?
darkestkhan
antranigv: the hottest I had ever been has been in Poland... my hometown once reached 56°C in shade in second half of June
antranigv
I lived in Syria, so, yes, in the middle of summer, however, most of people go to the beach that days, like Lattakia, I used to go to the mountains, like Kessab.
wow, 56?
well
global worming... let's drive less.
darkestkhan
no beach around here...
but we got dunes... in a freaking middle of temperate forest!
antranigv
what? o.O
I didn't know there are dunes in EU :/
cz mostly, well, it's so asia-arabic
like, Syria, Saudia, etc
ah, even in france there is, uncle Wiki says
Visaoni
56? that's impresive and terrifying
darkestkhan
yeah, but our is the only one in middle of temperate forest, all the way in south-east Poland... while nearest sea (Baltic) is 500km from here... [dunno how far to nearest desert, but it is FAR (unless there is one in Germany or Czech)]
